Coming up: “50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup” to celebrate Golden Jubilee of India-Korea diplomatic relations on April 15

Korean and Indian golfers would participate in this event that would witness the participation of diplomats including ambassadors, bureaucrats, top corporate figures, industry captains, and intellectuals.

NEW DELHI: India is all set to play host to the “50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup” to celebrate the year 2023 as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of India-Republic of Korea (ROK) diplomatic relations. Being organised with the supported by the Embassy of Korea and the United Korean Community Association in India, this one-day golfing event on April 15 (Saturday) would witness participation of Korean and Indian golfers including senior diplomats, corporate & industry captains, and industrialists. Ambassador Chang Jae-bok, the Republic of Korea to India also would be playing in this grand event.  

The United Korean Community Association in India is the apex body that represents all 10 regional Korean associations spread across the country representing about 14,000 Korean expats living and working in India.

The Korean golfers are likely to be the diplomats from the Embassy, and representatives of KOTRA, KITA, KOCHAM, KTO, KOSME, KYC, OKTA, and top Korean companies, and also and Indian golfers including senior central and state government bureaucrats, corporate personalities, decision-makers, and others will participate in this event.

Being organized by Asian Community News (ACN) Network (www.asiancommunitynews.com), with the support of Korean Embassy and United Korean Community Association in India, the “50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup”, is scheduled to be played at the Golden Greens Golf Club in Gurugram (Haryana). The event is part of the year-long celebrations India and Korea are making to commemorate this historic milestone in the history of bilateral relations of Asia’s top economies India and South Korea.

Euy Don Park, Chairman, United Korean Community Association in India said, “India-Republic of Korea (RoK) relations have made great strides in recent years, and have become truly multidimensional, spurred by a significant convergence of interests, mutual goodwill and high-level exchanges. Bilateral consular relations were established in 1962 and were upgraded to Ambassador-level on December 10, 1973. In course of time, RoK’s open market policies found resonance with India’s economic liberalization, ‘Look East Policy’ and later with the “Act East Policy”.”

Park who is also Vice President of Korean Chamber of Commerce in India (KOCHAM), said that besides art, culture, education, and streams, both nations have witnessed a rebound in their economic relations, especially in the year 2022 when bilateral trade touched an all-time highest figure of US$ 27.8 billion. Both sides committed to taking bilateral trade to US$ 50 billion by the year 2030 during Korean visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 in the presence of former Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The “50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup also aims at creating awareness among the Indian government, bureaucracy, and corporate world (especially the SMEs) about the importance of affinity with the Korean counterparts. Other objectives include promoting Incubation for Koean small and medium enterprises in India, promoting collaborations between Korean and Indian companies, promoting skilling in India for AI artificial intelligence, automation, and soft skilling, Indo – Korean ties both in the commercial and cultural domains, and also to contribute to the development of Korean business in northeast India.
