Korea, India celebrate Sept 23-28 as Korea India Economic Cooperation Week, organize series of events

NEW DELHI: In the run-up to taking the bilateral trade to the US $ 50 Billion by the year 2030, India and South Korea celebrated September 23-28 as Korea India Economic Cooperation Week, and lined up series of trade promotional events in various cities of both the countries.

These events not only aim at boosting trade but also source human capital from India.

An unprecedented turnout of businessmen from Korea, especially in the small, micro-enterprise sector and startup companies, was marked at various events in New Delhi, Gurugram, Bangalore, Chennai as well as in Seoul.

“We are approaching the Indian market for mutual benefit, and are organizing Korea India Economic cooperation week, and 10 trade promotional events happened simultaneously in India and Korea. In one such event in New Delhi, 45 Korean SMEs and startups interacted with Indian businessmen during ‘Korea Fair in India’ and turnout of Indians including venture capitalists was huge,” Moon Young Kim, president, Southwest Asia, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) told Asian Community News (ACN) Network on the sidelines of Korea Fair in India on September 26.

Korea has a total number of 600 companies operating in India with Hyundai, Samsung, KIA, and LG being the leading companies. The focus areas of these companies are South and North India around Chennai and New Delhi. The bilateral trade between the two countries had reached US$20 billion in 2018.

Korean Embassy in India and Committee on New Southwest Policy, Seoul with its support its agencies like KOTRA, Korean Cultural Centre India, Korea Tourism Organization, KODITS (Korea Defense Industry Trade Support Center), HUFS (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies), The India Chamber of Commerce & Industry and New Southwest Business federation organized series of events in India and Seoul this week.

Korea organized a Start-up exhibition meeting and AC/VC discussion in Bangalore and New Delhi) on September 23-26 in which 15 Korean Start-up companies and 70 local AC/VC companies participated.

On September 22-26 Caravan event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Telangana, Odisha in which 20 Korean companies in India and Indian state authorities participated.

Another major event India Defense·Security Trade Delegation came up in New Delhi and Bengaluru)  on September 23-27 when eight Korean Defense·Security companies took part.

On September 25, Invest in Seoul meeting was held in Gurugram in which 15 small companies from Seoul interacted with 60 Indian companies.

Then followed on September 24-27, a 7-Round Sessions on employment in India targeting major students with India focus study in Gyeonggi, Busan) in which 200 applicants for employment in India from HUFS, Inje Univ, BUFS CSR took part.

there followed an Information session on India CSR policy amendment in Gurugram on September 17 and in Seoul on September 27.
