Korean cultural event celebrates India’s 74th Republic Day and Korea’s New Year’s Day ‘Seollal’ together
NEW DELHI: Korean Cultural Centre India celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and India with its first cultural event commemorating India’s 74th Republic Day and Korea’s New Year’s Day, Seollal, which was celebrated on 22nd January this year.
To celebrate both these occasions, Korean Cultural Centre India distributed Korean rice cake also known as ‘Seol-Gi-Tteok’ a Seollal cultural food item along with winter hats among specially abled people at ‘Cheshire Homes India’, a local boarding school in New Delhi operated by a non-profit organization.
The depth of friendship was felt seeing the delicious rice cakes presented in Tri- color which was enjoyed by125 students (65 dormitory, 50 commute) and 25 teachers & staffs. ‘Cheshire Homes India’ that has been running the welfare, education, and boarding schools for local special-abled people for the past 66 years in India (headquartered in London).
In addition, Korean ‘Seol’ cultural experience events such as bowing to the senior, the ambassador couple, experiencing rice cake soup, playing Yut, Korean traditional game and making folding screens program were held at the Korean Embassy and Korean Cultural Centre. The overwhelming love of local K- culture supporters was witnessed at the events.
Hwang Il Yong, director of Korean Cultural Centre India said, “This event was planned and executed with the intention of introducing Korean ‘Seol’ culture of sharing rice cakes with marginalized neighbors while celebrating Indian Republic Day at 2023 which is the year of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and India. The congratulatory message for 74th Republic Day from our president also came and it will be delivered to the government through our diplomatic letter. I wish that the hearts of Indian local people, especially the marginalized neighbors who need more warm attention and love, will be warmed with new hopes in the New Year through this small gift of Korean rice cakes symbolizing the Indian flag in color. Starting with this small event, we plan to present various cultural and experiential events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and India.”
