Korea’s daily newspaper Gyeongnam Maeil & Asian Community News (ACN) collaborate, sign MoU

In operation for about 24 years in Korea, the Gyeongnm Maeil publishes 16-page newspaper, and operates in 18 cities and counties of Gyeongnam Province.

SEOUL/NEW DELHI: India-based media house Asian Community News Network (ACN Network) has joined hands with South Korea’s well known national daily newspaper Gyeongnam Maeil to collaborate in the field of news-media exchange, and also to carry out other related activities. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between the two sides in at the office of Gyeongnamaeil in Gyeongsangnam-do in South Korea recently.

Ryu Han-yeol, Editor-in-Chief, signed the MoU on behalf of Gyeongnam Maeil Newspaper Co. Limited, and Ms. Lee Hyunsook (Helen Lee), Editor-in-Charge (Korea), represented ACN Network and Chairperson, KIBO (Korea India Business Organisation) to sign the memorandum on February 18 in the presence of Jeong Chang-hoon, President (Publisher & Editor) of Gyeongnam Maeil. Later Sanjeev K Ahuja, Founding Editor-in-Chief & CEO of ACN Network also signed the MoU documents at the ACN Network office in Gurugram, Delhi NCR on March 3 during the visit of Helen Lee.

In operation for about 24 years Korea, the Gyeongnmaeil publishes 16-page newspaper, and operates in 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam Province to report on the news. Immensely popular with the East Asian expatriate communities in India for the last five years, the Asian Community News Network (ACN Network), caters to multiple Asian communities, especially the Koreans, Japanese, and Taiwanese as well as ASEAN, and reports bilateral matters related to art, cultural, language, lifestyle diplomatic relations, public policy, and trade, commerce & industry. ACN Network operates a news website (www.asiancommunitynews.com), publishes a monthly news magazine and also conducts Indo-east Asian events such as seminars, webinars and golf tournaments and networking events to promote bilateral ties between India and East Asian countries.

While congratulating the signing of the MOU between ACN and Gyungnan Maeil, Jung Chang-hoon, CEO of Gyungnam Maeil, said, “I would like to thank Mr. Sanjeev K. Ahuja, president of ACN and Mrs. Helen Lee president KIBO for your hard work in creating relationship and signing agreements. Gyungnam Maeil which is doing its best to play the role of multicultural communication in Korea, will do its best to become a civilian platform for Asians with ACN.”

Gyeongnam province is one of the nine provinces of the Republic of Korea such as Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, Gyeonggi, Jeju, Jeollabuk, and Jeollanam. With Changwon being its capital city, Gyeongnam is home to roughly 3.5 million people. Busan and Ulsan, two of Korea’s most populated cities can be found along the provinces coastline.

PARK Euy Don, Advisor, Gyeongnam Governor for India Cooperation, said that the tie up between Gyeongnamaeil  and ACN Network would go a long way in strengthening bond between the two nations Korea and India. With this tie up, the people of India would get to know more about Gyeongnam and its roots connected with India, especially the Gimhae region where Indian princess Suriratna visited 2000 years before and married to the then Gaya King Kin Suro and became Queen Heo Hwang Ok,” PARK added.

Gyeongnamaeil was founded on April 10, 1999, and has been striving for the right to know of Gyeongsangnam-do residents and newspaper readers. Gyeongnammaeil opened YouTube Gyeongnammaeil TV channel on September 17th, 2019 to meet readers’ various information needs in the digital information era. It also publishes K-Multicultural Newspaper as its sister paper since July 14th, 2022, and deals with multicultural events, education, expert voices, and planning articles.
