South Korea plans to rush medical supplies to India in its fight against COVID-19

NEW DELHI: South Korea has offered to rush urgent medical supplies to India, which is currently battling the world’s worst surge in coronavirus infections.

Korean authorities have said that the consultations are underway with the Indian side with regard to the specific medical items in need, such as oxygen concentrators, COVID-19 diagnostic kits, and other aid items.

Though the worth of the medical supplies to be sent to India was not disclosed, reportedly it would be in millions of dollars.

While quoting the Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Choi Young-sam the Korea Joong Ang Daily, said, “The government has decided to provide India with items for quarantine and public health from a humanitarian and friendly standpoint.”

A Korean government press communiqué said Wednesday, “The Korean government decided to provide urgent medical supplies to India, which has been a close partner of Korea for decades, to help save lives in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

It further said, “Consultations are underway with the Indian side with regard to the specific medical items in need, such as oxygen concentrators. The Korean government will continue to closely cooperate with India, our Special Strategic Partner, in its fight against COVID-19.”
