Taiwan Education Centre to come up at Amity University soon, MoU signed with TECC

NEW DELHI: Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) would soon set up a Taiwan Education Centre (TEC) at the Amity School of Liberal Arts & Foreign Languages, a leading institute with international acclaim for the highest academic standards, diverse educational programs, and distinguished faculty.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to this effect was signed between Amity University Haryana and Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India(TECC) on February 26 to establish a TEC to promote Mandarin course and academic collaboration between the two sides.

So far, Taiwan has established 19 TECs in campuses all over India, including IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, Jamia Millia Islamia, SRM Chennai, Vel Tech Chennai, etc

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the campus of the university and witnessed by Taiwan’s Representative to India, Ambassador Baushuan Ger,  and the Vice-Chancellor of Amity University Haryana Prof. P.B. Sharma along with other faculty members.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P.B. Sharma, an active supporter of the internationalization of higher education, was invited to Taiwan in 2018 for the first-ever Indo-Taiwan University Vice-Chancellor Forum, which helped initiate the bilateral and concreted relationship between the two nations on academic grounds.

 “This is the beginning of the cooperation and the collaboration between the two sides. We shall facilitate the academic exchange between Amity University Haryana and Universities of Taiwan”, said Ambassador Baushuan Ger, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC) who expressed his delight in visiting the research & innovation-driven Amity University Haryana today.

TECC, Education Director Peters Chen signed the MOU.

“Taiwan is desirous of attracting a much bigger talent from India in the coming years. Currently, there are 3,000 Indian students studying in leading Universities in Taiwan. This number shall increase to 10,000 in the near future”, added Ambassador Ger.

As per the MoU terms, the Amity University Haryana will have a Mandarin teacher from Taiwan next year to conduct Mandarin classes for its students and to facilitate bilateral relations through academic visitation, student exchange, faculty exchange, and customized short-term programs.

With the aim of the NEP 2020 to encourage international academic collaboration, the TEC will act as a bridge between Indian Universities and their counterparts in Taiwan and help students gain Mandarin language skills and information regarding studying in Taiwan, available scholarships, internships opportunities, and so on. Both sides will have more MOUs in different areas and programs. The students will have opportunities to study in Taiwan for Mandarin language or degree programs with scholarships. From now on, we will start with AUH by co-hosting some webinars between two sides on the fields of mutual interest,   said Peters Chen, Education Director,  TECC.

Deputy Representative Dr. Mumin Chen, Director of Science Dr. ChinTasn Wang, and Dr. Willy Wu of Cultural Division witnessed the signing ceremony, with many faculty members of Amity University Haryana.

Expressing his profound happiness in inking the MoU with Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, Kulpati Prof P B Sharma greeted Ambassador Baushuan Ger with a deep sense of appreciation of the hi-tech science and technology research and innovations being carried out in universities in Taiwan and desired that further collaborative ties in areas of great national and global importance be taken up in future. These areas include Artificial Intelligence and automation, Industry 4.0 technologies, Nano Science and technologies, and Environmental Science and Human Health.

Those present from Amity University Haryana included Maj Gen BS Suhag (Retd), Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Padmakali Banerjee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vikas Madhukar, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, Deans Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Prof U N Singh, Maj Gen P K Sharma, Director HR Rear Admiral KK Pandey (Retd.) and Registrar Dr.  Ravi Muneja. Program Coordinator Ms. Geetika Agrawal of Amity School of Languages conducted the ceremony.
