Korean ‘Trade Day’ award for Suresh Chukkapalli Hony Consul General of Korea in Telangana

NEW DELHI/HYDERABAD: The South Korean government has conferred Suresh Chukkapalli, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Telangana, with its country’s prestigious “Trade Day” award for promoting bilateral trade between the two countries.

Korean Ambassador to India Chang Jae-bok bestowed the award to Chukkapalli in Hyderabad where the former was on a 4-day visit on February 15-19, on behalf of Moon Seung-wook, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Republic of Korea.

The Trade Day award is an acknowledgement of Chukkapalli’s relentless efforts in bringing Korean investment into India, and also for promoting bilateral trade.

A reputed business leader and philanthropist, Suresh Chukkapalli, is the Chairman Emeritus, Phoenix Group, Hyderabad, and also an honorary member of ACN Editorial Advisory Board – a Think Tank comprising industry leaders, management gurus, academicians, and intellectuals from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and India.

Trade Day is an annual business and economy day that is celebrated in South Korea annually every December 5. Korea’s apex trade promotion arm Korea International Trade Association (KITA) celebrates the annual ceremony in Seoul by giving away awards to individuals and companies that have contributed to the promotion of Korean trade and expansion of exports.

The 58th Trade Day was celebrated on December 6 in Seoul and was attended by some 300 people, including South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Sung-wook, and KITA Chairman Koo Ja-yeol.

President Moon Jae-in on this occasion presented the executives of companies with “Export Tower” awards for their contributions to Korea’s exports and trade including Studio Dragon, Samsung Electronics, Krafton, and H-line Shipping in a ceremony to mark the 58th Trade Day at the Coex Convention and Exhibition Center in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul.

While speaking with Asian Community News (ACN) Network, Chukkapalli said it’s an honour for him to have received the Trade Day award presented to him by the Ambassador on behalf of Moon Seung-wook, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy. He said he will continue to work towards the promotion of not only bilateral trade but also the cultural and education exchange between the two countries.

Chukkapalli also happens to be the Honorary Ambassador, Yonsei University, South Korea, Honorary Chairman, Institute of Directors (IOD), Hyderabad, Member of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, English and Foreign Languages University, and Co-Chairman, TERI School of Advanced Studies, HBCC.

As the Honorary Consul General, Chukkapalli enables trade cooperation and facilitates economic relationships and commercial transactions between Telangana and the Republic of Korea.

He voluntarily heads a subdivision of the Consulate General of Mumbai to protect and provide support to Korean expatriates in Telangana. Additionally, he also promotes scientific and educational cross-cultural pursuits, enables Korean delegations to Telangana, and acts as a liaison between said delegations, industries, and government in his consular jurisdiction. Chukkapalli made the headlines in August last year for hosting a welcome ceremony at the Honorary Consulate General of Hyderabad to commemorate the Olympic achievements of the Indian badminton player P V Sindhu, as well as her Korean coach Park Tae-sang.

On this occasion, Cha Jae-ho, Lee Jung-heon, POSCO’s Jang Eung-bin, and Hyundai Engineering’s Kim Sung-hee attended, Chukkapalli and his all family, many Phoenix staffs and British Consulate, gathered were present during this ceremony that witnessed a K-pop performance also.

Born in 1962, he is Mechanical Engineer from SIT, Tumkur, Bangalore University. In his pursuit of business goals, Suresh Chukkapalli has achieved many milestones. He is a dynamic leader who thinks big from the word go!

In addition to his role as the Chairman Emeritus of the Phoenix Group, he is also Managing Trustee of the Phoenix Foundation and Trustee of Chukkapalli Shankar Rao Charitable Trust.

Suresh Chukkapalli comes from a distinguished family of entrepreneurs and is well reputed for this business acumen, dynamism, and commitment to business social responsibility. With a diverse background and many achievements, he is one of the most noteworthy names in the Real Estate and Infrastructure Industry in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh.

He chairs and holds highly acclaimed positions in several companies and elite bodies. He is a member of Governing Council – INDIC ACADEMY, Advisory Committee: Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, FICAC (World Federation of Consuls), HCCD India (Honorary Consular Corps Diplomatique, India), and CEO Clubs India.

Chukkapalli is the Managing Trustee of Chukkapalli Sankara Rao Educational Society (Delhi Public School), and Film Nagar Daiva Sannidhanam, Film Nagar, Hyderabad. He is also a Director on the Board of Nice Org, and a Member of Governing Council: Rtambhara Wellness.

The list of acclaimed awards received for CSR by the PHOENIX GROUP and by Chukkapalli includes the CMO Asia Smart Cities Award under “Smart CSR Initiative” for Mahaprasthanam Crematorium from Ned Mody (Head of business for Warren Buffet and MD of Berkadia Commercial Mortgage LLC in August 2017.

Phoenix Foundation‟s Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam initiative received the “HMA CSR Award of the Year” in August 2017 again. Aakash Chukkapalli, Director of Phoenix Group received the award from ESL. Narasimhan Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He was also named Real Estate Professional of the Year 2017 at the Summit.

On the other hand, Phoenix Foundation, thriving under Suresh Chukkapalli, won the honor for “Best CSR Practices in Real Estate Sector” and received several praises for Mahaprasthanam and Arena initiatives.

In 2017, Phoenix Foundation won the “Best Philanthropic Initiative” award for Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam and Phoenix Arena initiatives, under ACEF (Asian Customer Engagement Forum) Awards for Excellence in CSR. Aakash Chukkapalli and Nilesh Jani, Directors, Phoenix Group received the Award in 2017.

Phoenix Group was presented with an Award for “Excellence in Social and Community Initiatives” at the prestigious Indywood CSR Excellence Awards 2017 held at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad in December 2017.

In 2019, the “Phoenix Avance” won the “Commercial Project of the Year” award for the H09 Building in Real Estate. The same year, “Phoenix Foundation” won the “Asia’s Best CST Practice Award” award for Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam under the category of Innovation in CSR.

In the year 2019, the Phoenix Infocity won the “Golden Peacock Award”, Vaikunth Dhamma, Guntur won the “Best Community Affairs” award, and in January 2020, Suresh Chukkapalli was awarded “Champions of Change – 2019”, by the former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee at a distinguished gathering on 20th January 2020 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. In February 2020 again, “Phoenix Foundation” won the “Special Achievement Award” on 15th February 2020.
