Japanese Tea Showroom: Over 30 Japanese tea variants introduced to Indian tea enthusiasts including importers

NEW DELHI: In its bid to promote the consumption of various Japanese tea variants such as Green Tea, Matcha, and more in India, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and the Embassy of Japan in India organized a “Japanese Tea Showroom” event at the Japan Foundation premises in New Delhi on 29th & 30th September, 2022. Ten major Japanese tea producing companies from Japan exhibited over 30 tea variants during this 2-day Japanese tea tasting event. JETRO invited F&B business buyers during the exhibition and tastings & workshop of Japanese tea products.

The event was meant for F&B business buyers, and also had staged exhibition, tastings and workshop of Japanese Tea products where various variants including Green Tea, Matcha, etc., were offered. The long range of Japanese tea variants included Matcha, Sencha, Gyokura, Hjicha, Genmaicha, black tea, roasted soybeans tea, Matcha Cappucchino, Matcha Organic, Matcha Blended Tea Bag, Blended Barley Tea, Roasted Barley Tea, Quinoa Tea Deep steamed green tea, Black Soybean Barley Tea,  Organic Sencha, and many others.

The participating Japanese companies that exhibited their products included Chashou Rokubei, Uji Matcha Cappucchino, Kawakami Mokuzai Co., Ltd, Green Tea, Black Tea, Benifuki Green Tea, Kyoei Seicha Co., Organic UJI Matcha Organic UJI Matcha Blended Tea Bag, Houjicha Blended Barley Tea, Teabag Kyoto Grain System, Roasted Barley Tea, Quinoa Tea NEWTRAIL. Inc, Green Tea Nishimura Banchaya Honten, Matcha Numajiri Sangyo CO., Ltd, Green Tea, Houji tea, Deep steamed green tea, Sanei Kosan Co., Ltd., Barley Tea, Black Soybean Barley Tea,  Sasaki Green Tea Company Organic Sencha, Kakegawa Matcha, Genmaicha with Matcha tea bag, SC Foods Co., Ltd.

Takashi Suzuki, Chief Director General of Japan government’s trade promotion arm Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) said that currently the Japanese tea sales in India is limited to retailers offering Japanese and Korean products as well as products of other Asian countries. Some of the buyers also included the hotels and restaurants serving Japanese tea.

“However, many Indian people also who have developed taste for the Japanese tea, especially those who have been visiting USA are also consuming Japanese tea. In USA, Japanese tea is very popular. Many Indians who return form USA, look for Japanese tea in India,” said Suzuki.

While talking about the USP of the Japanese tea, the JETRO chief said that various Japanese tea variants were not only good for health and immunity booster for being produced in organic environment and also for their caffeine-free and anti-oxidant properties, it also introduced the rich Japanese culture to the consumers. And the number of Indian nationals developing affinity with the Japanese culture is increasing rapidly in India, and so is the consumption of Japanese tea, though slowly.
