Cho Yoonmi Appointed as New Director of Korea Tourism Organization’s India Office
Tourism veteran with over 25 years of experience to spearhead South Korea’s tourism promotion and strengthen travel ties with India.
New Delhi: The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has appointed Cho Yoonmi as the new Director of its New Delhi Office, with effect from June 30, 2026, marking a fresh push to deepen South Korea’s tourism outreach in India.
With over 25 years of experience within KTO, Cho brings extensive institutional knowledge of Korea’s tourism landscape, destination branding, and global tourism promotion. In her new role, she will lead KTO India’s strategy to strengthen South Korea’s visibility among Indian travellers, expand engagement across key Indian cities, and build closer partnerships with airlines, tour operators, travel associations and other stakeholders in the tourism ecosystem.
Cho assumes charge at a time when India has emerged as one of the most promising outbound travel markets for South Korea, driven by growing interest in Korean culture, K-pop, K-dramas, Korean cuisine, wellness, shopping, premium travel and experiential holidays.
Speaking on her appointment, Cho said that during her 25 years with KTO, she had seen India become one of the most important and fastest-growing markets for Korea tourism. She added that the bond between India and Korea had grown stronger over the years and that she would work closely with industry partners to take Korea closer to becoming the ultimate destination for Indian travellers.
Under her leadership, KTO India is expected to sharpen its focus on leisure tourism, business travel, MICE, educational tourism, film tourism and destination experiences that appeal to young Indian travellers as well as families and premium holidaymakers.
The KTO New Delhi Office was established in May 2008 to promote South Korea’s multi-faceted appeal as a premier tourist destination for India and neighbouring countries. Its major activities include brand promotion, public relations, product development with outbound operators, familiarisation trips for travel trade and media, participation in B2B and B2C exhibitions, roadshows, seminars, workshops and incentive support for MICE, industrial and educational tourism.
Cho’s appointment reflects KTO’s continued focus on India as a priority market and comes at a time when tourism is increasingly becoming an important pillar of people-to-people ties between India and South Korea. With Korean popular culture already enjoying wide appeal among Indian audiences, KTO is expected to build on this momentum by positioning Korea not only as a K-culture destination, but also as a complete travel experience offering heritage, nature, food, shopping, wellness, technology and entertainment.
