From Ramayana to Suzume, Japanese Film Festival to Offer 17 Screenings on October 3–4

NEW DELHI: Anime enthusiasts in the national capital will have an opportunity to explore a wide range of Japanese animation—from the adventures of Suzume and the football rivalry of Blue Lock to Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama—when the Japanese Film Festival presents a two-day screening programme on October 3 and 4, 2026, at PVR Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden.

The Japan Foundation’s Japanese Film Festival is collaborating with Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!! 2026 for the programme. The Foundation has confirmed that this is the third collaboration between the two festivals. PVR INOX is the venue partner, while Geek Pictures India is the creative partner, according to the promotional material.

The schedule features 17 screenings across Audi 1 and Audi 5, with nine shows on October 3 and eight on October 4. There are 12 distinct titles, with Ninjaboy Rantaro appearing in both Hindi and English versions. Counting these language versions separately, the programme comprises 13 entries.

Of the 17 screenings, six are ticketed, and 11 are non-ticketed. All six ticketed shows will take place in Audi 1. The non-ticketed programme includes two evening screenings in Audi 1 and all nine shows scheduled in Audi 5.

The selection spans different forms of animated storytelling: fantasy and adventure, superhero action, music-centred narratives, sports drama, mythology, psychological suspense and science fiction. Alongside feature films, the programme includes shorter Ninjaboy Rantaro screenings and presentations of anime series titles such as Witch Hat Atelier and Nippon Sangoku. The lineup therefore offers more variety than a programme consisting solely of standalone feature films.

The ticketed programme opens on October 3 with Suzume at 11 am, followed by My Hero Academia: You’re Next at 1.45 pm and Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing at 4.15 pm. The day’s Audi 1 programme concludes with a non-ticketed screening of Perfect Blue at 6.45 pm.

On October 4, Audi 1 will host ticketed screenings of The Place Promised in Our Early Days at 11 am, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama at 1.20 pm and Blue Lock The Movie – Episode Nagi – at 4.20 pm. A non-ticketed screening of Ghost in the Shell at 6.40 pm will close the auditorium’s festival programme.

Audi 5 will be devoted entirely to non-ticketed screenings. On October 3, its programme includes the Hindi and English versions of Ninjaboy Rantaro, Nippon Sangoku, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island and Witch Hat Atelier. On October 4, audiences will have another opportunity to watch Witch Hat Atelier, both language versions of Ninjaboy Rantaro, and Nippon Sangoku.

Across the free programme, six distinct titles are represented: Perfect Blue, Ghost in the Shell, Ninjaboy Rantaro, Nippon Sangoku, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island and Witch Hat Atelier. Repeat screenings and the two language versions of Ninjaboy Rantaro account for the total of 11 non-ticketed shows.

Viewers should note that non-ticketed does not mean entry without an admission ticket. The organisers instruct audiences to collect free tickets from the JFF counter in front of PVR, starting 90 minutes before the relevant screening. The festival website also confirms this collection arrangement.

The promotional poster announces that tickets for the ticketed programme are live. However, it does not specify ticket prices or provide a booking link.
