India’s first ‘Web Media Summit 2023’ by WJAI takes off in Patna

PATNA: India’s first-ever ‘Web Media Summit 2023’ organized by the Web Journalists Association took off in Patna on Saturday. An apex body of web journalists and news portals from across India the WJAI’s ‘Web Media Summit 2023’ was inaugurated by Bihar Information and Public Relations Minister Sanjay Jha, Former General Secretary of Editors Guild and Patron of Association N. K. Singh, and media veterans Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Dwivedi, former Director General of IIMC, in the presence of country’s top media personalities hailing from well-known media outlets – Network 18, Zee News, ABP Network & ABPLive.com, News Nation, TV-9, Nav Bharat Times Digital, Punjab Kesari, and others.

These tall media figures included Brajesh Kumar Singh Group Editor, Network 18 Group, Pankaj Singh – Editor, Alok Mishra, the editor of Jagran, Sanjay Tripathi, editor of Rashtriya Sahara, TV9 executive editor Pankaj Singh, Praveen Jha of Punjab Kesari, Rajeev Kamal, Editor of News Gathering, and Gyaneshwar, Editor of Live Cities.

National President of the Web Journalists Association of India Anand Kaushal welcomed the guests. Murali Manohar Srivastava moderated the forum and General Secretary Amit Ranjan delivered a vote of thanks and discussed the work done by the association for the member journalists.

Led by Anand Kaushal National President, the WJAI represents web journalists from across the country. It is a Web Journalists’ Standards Authority (WJSA) of news publishers registered as a Self-Regulatory Body by (SRB) the Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry of India under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Codes) Rules 2021. The WJAI managing committee comprises a High Court Justice (Retd), senior journalists, bureaucrats and educationists.

On the inaugural day on Saturday, the Bihar Information and Public Relations Minister Sanjay Jha while addressing the inaugural session of ‘Web Media Summit 2023’ said that today rural people are the biggest consumers of web media. Their trust in web media needs to be taken care of. The souvenirs published for the summit were also released by the chief guests.

In the second session of ‘Web Media Summit 2023’, media tycoons discussed the topic “Web Media: Trends and Future”. Former General Secretary of the Editors Guild and Patron of the Association N. K. Singh said that rural people are not only big consumers but they are also giving news. Therefore, the news related to public issues is more and more in the content of the web.

Brajesh Singh, Group Editor, Network 18 discusses how web media can generate revenue. This can be done by providing the right content, he said because viewers have millions of options. Prof. Dr. Sanjay Dwivedi, Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, said that today journalism has become global due to web media. Today even small groups are able to do online journalism. He discussed the success of web media as well as its challenges.

Dyaneshwar of Live Cities claims that today the web has become the real and dominant media. At the same time, Alok Mishra, the editor of Jagran, emphasized that all media, including the web, should know media ethics. Sanjay Tripathi, editor of Rashtriya Sahara, said that the web should not be too hasty and should do a thorough investigation before serving the news.

TV9 executive editor Pankaj Singh said that web media has democratized and simplified journalism. He also said that web media can take advantage of the vacuum that has been created in TV journalism due to serving monotonous content and providing good content. Praveen Jha of Punjab Kesari emphasized the richness of the language.

In the other session of the summit, Dr. Madho Singh discussed various issues with the veterans. In the summit, the chief guest and distinguished guests were honored by giving uniforms and emblems. The fourth session was named as cultural program, in which “Sham-e-Ghazal” was organized. The program was performed by a famous singer (Darbhanga Gharana), Mithila Ratna Pt. Abhishek Mishra. Web Media Summit 2023 was attended by editors, reporters, and directors from all over the country including Bihar.
