Japan to promote its culinary culture, food, and agri-products including Japanese apples (りんご), Veg Sushi in India

On Nov 24-25, experienced Japanese chef Yoshinori TEZUKA would demonstrate essence of Japanese food and food culture, and also the industry leaders from India and Japan would interact to promote Japanese culinary and food.

Japanese Food Day Special

NEW DELHI:: In order to protect and inherit Japanese culinary culture and promote Japanese food in India, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in India, will organize the “Japan-India Food and Agriculture Symposium” in New Delhi on 24th November 2022 – the “Japanese Food Day”.

The symposium is expected to draw up to 300 participants, including an economic mission from Japan.

The Japan-India Food and Agriculture Symposium will focus on Sustainable Food Supply and Agricultural Investment on 24th November.

On the following day, 25th November, the “Lecture and Demonstration for Japanese Food Day” will be held with Yoshinori TEZUKA, who has been serving “Vegetarian Edomae Sushi” from Japan to various countries for years.

After the symposium, there will follow a reception for exchanges between leaders of industry, academia and government from India and Japan at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi.

Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, the event is co-sponsored by the Embassy of Japan in India in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Food Processing. Japan’s apex trade promotion agency JETRO is also supporting the event.

“The objective of the symposium is to promote Japanese investment in India in order to achieve the 5 trillion yen investment target pledged during Prime Minister Kishida’s visit to India this March, and to promote exports of Japanese agricultural products and foods, including Japanese apples, whose import ban has been lifted in this March,” said a statement by the Embassy of Japan.

The symposium also will be held in cooperation between Japan and India to strengthen ties between the two presidencies of the G7/G20.

The topics to be discussed during the symposium include enhancing business collaboration in India, possibility of new technologies and methods for enhanced productivity, India-Japan roles for global system of sustainable food and agriculture, and deployment of advanced methods in rural India.

The following day on 25th November the Lecture and Demonstration for Japanese Food Day will be organbized at the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering & Nutrition, Pusa, New Delhi.

This event will be organized by the Embassy of Japan in India in association with IHM Pusa, S.A.A.G.,

“As “Sushi” is becoming popular in India, we invited two experts in Japanese food as lecturers to introduce the essence of Japanese food and food culture to chefs and students who are the future leaders of HORECA (hotel, restaurant and café industry) in India. The program aims to develop evangelists of Japanese food and culinary culture in India,” said a statement by the Embassy of Japan.

The event would witness a session by Chef Tezuka “Basics of Sushi – Introduction to Sushi Craftsmanship”, and another one by by Prof. Ichiida on “”Dashi” the Basis of Japanese Cooking – Extraction and Utilization Methods” .
