Korea Creative Content Agency KOCCA enters India to globalise Indian stories; organizing Content Expo in Sept

NEW DELHI: In its bid to globalize India’s rich cultural diversity, classical music, regional dances, and a multifaceted entertainment industry by enhancing collaboration and cooperation between South Korean and Indian stakeholders in the content industry, South Korea’s Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) has reached India.

Considering the fact that India’s compelling narratives are globally recognized, and many countries aspire to incorporate these stories as the foundation for various content forms such as drama, film, gaming, animation, cartoon, music, and more, the KOCCA has some serious plans in India, said Dragon Park, Indian representative of the Korea Creative Content.

KOCCA, a non-profit organization under the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has been a cornerstone in maintaining the sustainability of South Korea’s creative culture industry since its inception in 2009.

With a substantial government funding of over $435 million, KOCCA is actively involved in a range of public sector activities, including the distribution of subsidies, organization of exhibitions, and execution of research projects.

Currently housed at Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI), New Delhi, KOCCA will set up its own Liaison Office in Gurugram by  June/July, Dragon Park told Asian Community News (ACN) Network in New Delhi on Tuesday. He said that KOCCA would strive to transform India’s immense cultural potential into exportable commodities that captivate a global audience.

“This will be achieved by enhancing collaboration and cooperation between South Korean and Indian stakeholders in the content industry. We will also organize Content Expo in September. India is renowned for its rich cultural diversity, with Bollywood, classical music, regional dances, and a multifaceted entertainment industry. Moreover, India’s compelling narratives are globally recognized, and many countries aspire to incorporate these stories as the foundation for various content forms such as drama, film, gaming, animation, cartoon, music, and more.”

He said that in particular, KOCCA is committed to nurturing South Korea’s content industry by fostering exchange and collaboration with culturally advanced nations. This is the driving force behind KOCCA’s keen interest in establishing a Liaison Office in India.

Present on the occasion, Park Seung Tae, deputy director, Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO), New Delhi office, said that there was an increased interest in exploring South Korea as a tourist destination as the craze for K-content was on the rise in India like other parts of the world. This was driving more and more Indians to explore more about South Korean and visit there.

KOCCA supports production, planning, creation, distribution, overseas expansion, business growth, training, R&D, policy financing, and policy study of many different genres, including broadcasting, video game, music, fashion, animation, character, comics, IP, new technology convergence content.

KOCCA is dedicated to promote the welfare of the people by turning Korea into a major player in the content industry worldwide. KOCCA plans to systemically and strategically support the industrial infrastructures by closely working with stakeholders, relevant organizations, and local promotion centers.
