KOSATO Hakuei appointed Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador for India

Also known as Harry Hakuei Kosato outside Japan, he has been instrumental in promoting Washoku, Japanese Cuisine, in India in terms of awareness of ingredients as well as the cuisine in general.

MUMBAI: Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) has designated KOSATO Hakuei – as “Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador” for India. Also known as Harry Hakuei Kosato outside Japan, he is the Director of the popular Japanese sushi delivery and takeaway business Sushi and More India, and India Representative and Director for Kikkoman India, the producer of Japanese soy sauce.

He has been instrumental in promoting Washoku, Japanese Cuisine, in India in terms of awareness of ingredients as well as the cuisine in general. Harry Hakuei Kosato is also the author of Japanese language book  “Oxford Success Principles : 10 Principles for Driving Success in Life”, one of the best sellers in Japan.

His appointment as “Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador” for India is part of Japan’s MAFF efforts to promote Japanese food and dietary culture, which has been taking place since 2015 after UNESCO declared “WASHOKU” as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Designated ambassadors are persons capable of providing appropriate consultations on the promotion of Japanese food and dietary culture. As Goodwill Ambassador, KOSATO Hakuei is expected to assist MAFF in promoting Japanese food and dietary culture and provide advice on the same abroad.

LSE and Oxford educated, he launched Virgin and Dyson in Japan as Head of Marketing, but he started out as a qualified international tax expert in the United Kingdom at a firm which is now known as Accenture.

Now he wears many hats and runs projects as diverse as Sushi and More (India’s first and largest multi-city chain of affordable sushi outlets) to Dr. Smart Money (a social impact project supported by Oxford Innovation) in London. He also runs Kikkoman in India – Japan’s No 1 soy sauce brand with a history spanning over 350 years – as Director and India Representative. A Guinness Book of World Records holder, and awarded a Good Design Award, he lives in Mumbai and Singapore.

He recently launched his first business book in Japanese “Oxford Success Principles: 10 Principles for Driving Success in Life” (Published by Kobunsha Limited, Tokyo, Japan).

This book charts the way starting with Harry’s Oxford education to his work in Japan, United Kingdom, India, etcetera spanning some 2 decades.

He recently completed his second Master’s degree (Applied Business) from the SBS Swiss Business School, and is continuing his doctorate studies at the school under the supervision of Dr. Bert Wolfs.

Harry assisted investor Jim Rogers in Jim Roger’s book which topped Amazon Japan best seller lists, and this is Harry’s first book. It was available from 21 September 2022 on Amazon.co.jp and all bookstores in Japan nationwide from 22 September.
