Japan Recognizes Senkoukai Karate as an Effective Self-Defense Karate Style: Senkoukai Karate, founded and developed in India by Hanshi Shaswat Kumar, officially received international recognition from the International Bujutsu Karate Association (IBKA) Headquarters, Japan.

On 9 May 2026, Senkoukai Karate received special recognition from Japan as an effective and practical self-defense karate style. Earlier, in 2024, it had already been recognized by Japan as an Independent Full-Contact Karate Style.

The recognition was awarded by Grandmaster Masaki Watanabe (Black Belt 10th Dan), founder of the International Bujutsu Karate Association Headquarters Japan and Watanabe Shotokan Karate Federation Headquarters Japan.

Senkoukai Karate Emerges as One of India’s Most Effective Self-Defense Karate Styles: Senkoukai Karate is now regarded as one of India’s most effective and practical self-defense karate styles for schools, colleges, girls, women, and civilians. Its modern combat training system, realistic self-defense methods, and practical combat applications have made it different from many traditional karate systems.

Due to its highly effective self-defense system, the International Bujutsu Karate Association Headquarters Japan officially recognized Senkoukai Karate as an “extremely effective and practical self-defense karate style.”

With this historic achievement, Senkoukai Karate has become one of the first Indian karate styles to receive international recognition from Japan specifically for Self-Defense Effectiveness.

Developed by Hanshi Shaswat Kumar, this modern karate system focuses not only on tournaments but also on real-life dangerous situations, women’s safety, anti-bullying protection, street self-defense, and survival combat training.

Today, thousands of students, girls, and women across India are receiving self-defense training through Senkoukai Karate. Due to its growing popularity and practical effectiveness, it is regarded as one of India’s fastest-growing and most effective self-defense karate organizations.

Women Safety Inspiration Behind Senkoukai Karate: Hanshi Shaswat Kumar stated that the 2012 Nirbhaya incident deeply affected him emotionally and mentally. After witnessing such tragic incidents against girls and women, he strongly believed that women should receive practical self-defense training so that they can protect themselves during dangerous situations.

This vision later transformed into Senkoukai Karate, a modern combat and self-defense system designed for real-life survival situations rather than only tournament competition.

More Than 30,000 Students Trained: Hanshi Shaswat Kumar has reportedly provided self-defense training to more than 30,000 school and college students. He has especially worked to spread self-defense awareness among girls and women.

He also actively conducts social service activities through the Shreyanavi Charitable Foundation.

Legacy and Inspiration: Known as the “Legend of Indian Karate,” Hanshi Shaswat Kumar continues inspiring martial artists and youth around the world through discipline, dedication, resilience, and innovation.

Despite facing challenges and politics within martial arts, he continued following his independent path with determination. Today, he is regarded among the most successful martial artists from India who brought pride to the nation internationally.

He remains deeply grateful to his mentors Grandmaster Masaki Watanabe, Ryogo Ito, Yoshio Tanibata, and Soke Yoshimoto Tanaka, who played an important role in shaping his martial arts journey.
