Sarita Sundaram sensei, President, Teachers Association of Japanese, Mumbai, conferred Order of Rising Sun, Gold and Silver

MUMBAI: Dr. Fukahori Yasukata, Consul-General of Japan in Mumbai, hosted a conferment ceremony for Ms. Sarita Sundaram, President of Teachers Association of Japanese Mumbai, who is among the Spring 2023 Conferment of Decorations foreign recipients. She received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in recognition of her contribution to promoting Japanese language education in India and mutual understanding between Japan and India.

While addressing the conferment ceremony hosted at the Mumbai Consulate of Japan on July 31, the Consul-General Dr. Fukahori expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the continuous and dedicated efforts made by Ms. Sundaram in promoting Japanese language education in India and mutual understanding between Japan and India through educational activities.

Ms. Sundaram said that she was greatly honoured to receive this extraordinary award. She also expressed her gratitude to the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai, The Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships(AOTS), Students and her Father for their continuous support, as well as her hope to continue promoting Japanese language education in the future.

The Teachers Association of Japanese (TAJ) is an organization committed to spreading Japanese language and culture in Mumbai. Its members are Japanese teachers. Every year it holds a Japanese language song contest, a cultural festival – the Bunkasai – where we conduct all kinds of workshops introducing Japanese arts, encourage students to perform in Japanese and interact with native Japanese. TAJ holds quiz contests for school students, visits schools and conduct short programs for increasing awareness about Japan and Japanese culture, and also conducts the JLPT in Mumbai.

Dr. Meher Bhoot a friend of Ms. Sarita and Head, Department of Germany, University of Mumbai, said that she knew Ms. Sarita for over 25 years and met her at the department of German University of Mumbai. Ms. Sarita also teaches here and is a part time faculty. “Currently they have about 120 students for Japanese language in this institution and Ms. Sarita has also introduced Japanese aesthetics in the department,” she added.

Yoshiro Sato, Gakko Bunka Educational & Cultural Society’s Japanese School of Mumbai, Tomonari Kuroda, Japan Foundation, Jeetendra Pardeshi, Superintendent Of Gardens & Tree Officer, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, and Kulkarni Govind N., Director, Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering also attended the conferment ceremony.
