Launched: Japanese, German language courses for working professionals at Gurugram University

GURUGRAM: Having launched two foreign language courses (Diploma & Certificate ) –Japanese and German last year for its students, Gurugram University has introduced the same courses for working professionals. This initiative would help aspiring professionals in fetching better-paying jobs and also enhancing their careers prospects by securing them employment opportunities in Japanese and German companies.

Titled “Summer Courses for Professionals”, these courses would be commencing during the current academic session 2023-24 in both the languages – Japanese and German from July 10.

As regards the career prospects for the youths learning these languages, it is important to know that Japan and Germany enjoy strong trade, business and industry connect with India. As per industry reports about 1500 Japanese and 1700 German companies are currently operating in India, and the number is growing every year. Both the nations are well known for their industrial might across the world, and both are ally nations with India.

As Prof. Rakesh Kumar Yogi, Dean, Faculty of Law & Humanities, Gurugram University, puts it, “Those learning foreign Japanese and German languages can look forward to a promising career ahead as they stand better chances of being absorbed by the multinational companies from these countries. Working professionals who chose to learn these languages can look forward to better employment opportunities and heftier pay-packages.”

If Japan is the fifth largest foreign investor in India, Germany is the seventh biggest FDI source here.  Japanese investment in India has been largely n the automotive, and electronics sectors but is fats expanding to other non-conventional fields as well.

According to India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the German investments in India are spread to almost all the large sectors including transportation, electrical equipment, metallurgical industries, services sector (particularly insurance), chemicals, construction activity, trading and automobiles.

According to Prof. Yogi, considering ample opportunities, the Gurugram University is working on exploring possibilities of imparting training in couple of more foreign languages such as Korean as well in the near future.

The newly launched certificate course for working professionals in Japanese and German languages at Gurugramn University is scheduled for weekend sessions for 1 year duration ( 2 semesters) and the diploma course for both languages on weekdays, which are of 2 years duration ( 4 semesters). University also organised a few guest lectures where the Japanese and German natives visited the campus and interacted with students about their respective countries and available career prospects in 2022.

The eligibility is 10+2 Examination, with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (47.5% in case of SC/ST/ Divyang (specially-abled) candidates of Haryana only. These languages are aimed to teach Japanese and German from a very basic level and there is no prior knowledge required for both the languages in this course.

The syllabus is designed for both courses in such a way that students can easily appear for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (日本語能力試験) –JLPT (N5/N4/N3) and in German the level of the exam is A1/A2/B1/B2. Students can easily read, write and interact with the natives in the same languages smoothly.

Initially, these courses were introduced in 2022 with the aim that students who want to work for Japanese or German companies or wish to move to these countries for higher studies could avail this facility. These courses are also very beneficial for students who are planning to go for higher studies in these countries.
