Talk with a South Korean Diplomat: Students interact with embassy diplomats

Recently Korean Embassy Minister Sang-woo Lim (Deputy Chief of Mission), and Mount Abu Public School students interacted freely. Next are Ahlcon International School and National Victor Public School.

NEW DELHI: In line with the commemoration activities of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral relations between South Korea and India, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India and the Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI) have prepared a program ‘Talk with a South Korean Diplomat’ which gives an in-depth knowledge on the role and importance of a diplomat. Through this program, South Korean diplomats visit Indian schools to introduce South Korea, talk with Indian students about Korea-India relations, a diplomat’s roles, duties, qualities, and answer questions regarding the job of a diplomat.

In lined with the program, a lecture by Minister Sang-woo Lim (Deputy Chief  of Mission),  Embassy of the Republic of Korea to India was organized at Mount Abu Public School Auditorium, Rohini. The event was attended by 300 students, Ms. Jyoti Arora the principal of the school, and teachers.

Minister Sang-woo Lim, in his lecture introduced a diplomat role as  a ‘Peace Maker’. He talked at length about South Korean culture based on India and Korea’s shared past, the dynamic relationship-oriented present and the synergy between the two countries for the future.

Principal Jyoti Arora said that the school associated with KCCI for the past nine years through different activities and programs like quizzes, essay writing, and Samulnori. The school believes that understanding and appreciating different cultures is key to building bridges and fostering peaceful relationships between nations while actively working towards a more sustainable world. The school takes immense pride in promoting global leadership, fostering a deep understanding and cultivating respect for diverse cultures.

“Our students have also been fortunate to have Taekwondo sessions right here in our school premises. We are privileged to have been running Korean Hobby Classes since past 5 years and Korean Curriculum Classes since 2021. The school even had the honour to be host to a delegation of students from South Korea. This association with the Korean Cultural Centre has been instrumental in enriching our students’ knowledge about South Korea’s culture, language, and traditions. It has provided them with a platform to showcase their talents and learn valuable life skills. We are grateful for the opportunities it has brought and the positive impact it has had on our school community,” added Jyoti Arora.

Mount Abu School has recently been awarded the prestigious “Intercultural Achievement Award” in the category of Sustainability by the Ministry of Austria. It happens to be the only school in India to receive this recognition. she attributed this achievement to the efforts of school’s “Global Citizens and Educators” who have embraced the values of global citizenship and actively contributed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

The interest of students in Korean culture was unmatchable. They were well aware about the culture, be it Korean food, music, dramas or technology. A Grade-8 student Bhavya said that she loved K-drama, food, fashion and music which she found very related. Through Korean dramas she learnt new words which makes the learning process fun.

The Korean embassy diplomats will soon be meeting students of Ahlcon International School and National Victor Public School to share more stories with the same vision.ACN
