NEW DELHI/GURUGRAM: Widely known to effectively treat musculoskeletal problems, and many other conditions, including those that involve internal and mental functions, acupuncture is a form of treatment that involves inserting very thin needles through a person’s skin at specific points on the body, to various depths.

As Ms. Junko Okawa, MD, Ariakedo Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinic put it, “Acupuncture enhances the body’s natural healing abilities and promotes well-being by stimulating selected points, called “tsubo”, of which there are said to be 361 on the body.

It is a 3,000-year-old healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine and also has a root in Ayurveda originally. There are many common points between Acupuncture and Ayurveda. Acupuncture treatment has been practiceda  for long time.

“However recently many doctors and physicians are beginning to understand the potential of oriental medicine. In 1997, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented and publicized acupunctures safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture is now covered by many insurance policies and is used most broadly to  relieve pain,” adds Ms. Okawa.

Acupuncture treats musculoskeletal problems, and many other conditions, including those that involve internal and mental functions such as Neurology, Cardiology, Musculoskeletal, Gastrointestinal, Gynecology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Eye Disorders, Pediatric, Psychiatry, etc,

Five years in operation in India, Ariakedo Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinic is currently situated at the first floor of Club Capri in Central Park2 Resort, Sector 48, Sohna Road. Led by Ms. Okawa, this clinic has four Japanese native professional and fully trained female acupuncturists who have been awarded license by the Japanese government.

This clinic also has four professional Indian female massagers.

The staff at Ariakedo Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinic are all Japanese female acupuncturists with national qualifications. Not only does she have the careful technique that is unique to Japanese people, but she also has the delicate attention that only a woman can have. We look forward to serving you with peace of mind, courtesy, and “Japan quality.”

“At Ariakedo Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinic, we aim to provide total support services, not only for physical maintenance, but also for exercise, diet, and mental aspects so that our customers can lead healthy lives with a smile,” she added.

This ultra-modern and hygienic facility offers four private rooms with 5 beds for treatment.

When asked about how does the acupuncture technique works, Ms. Okawa said that this benefited in pain relief, improved blood circulation, enhanced immune system and natural healing power, relaxing effect to body and mind (improve parasympathetic nervous system), beauty Benefits, and diet (Good circulation means one can You can burn the fat).

“The insertion acupuncture needles releases pain and provides the much required relief to the hormones and also blocks the nerves from sending pain signals to the brain. With the improved circulation of both blood and lymph, continued treatment will lead to better immune system and natural healing abilities,” she adds.

On the possible side effects, Ms. Okawa said that there were rare cases of fatigue, dizziness, or drowsiness on the day or day after the treatment. However this is a natural reaction and this is part of the cleansing process for the body and it will fade over time so set your mind at ease. It is because acupuncture will increase the blood flow, therefore drink enough water (hot water is better) and refrain from intense exercise and alcohol on the day of the treatment.

She addressed the very common concern generally people express, and that is the fear of needle.

“Actually it is not painful, because acupuncture needles are thinner than a human hair ( usually 0.12-0.2mm). You may feel a slight sensation when the needle is inserted, like a pinch or plucking of hair.”

“Japanese Acupuncture is extremely safety and painless. We are licensed, trained acupuncturists, have a license issued by Japanese government. We use only disposable needles, and there is no risk of infection.”

Once the needle is placed, patients report a variety of sensations, including deep pressure, chins, heaviness, and sometimes nothing at all. These sensations (that accompany needling) are called “HIBIKI” in Japanese. It is a good feeling and makes you feel deep relax, then there are some patients fall into a light sleep during the session.

If you feel any pain (like tingling that is not HIBIKI ) or discomfort, let your acupuncturist know and she will make the necessary adjustments. Please relax and try to take session.

On the number of sessions, one should take, Ms. Okawa said, “When you have pain take 1-5 sessions a week. For physical improvement, it should be once every two weeks at first, and then gradually decrease the frequency. Check-ups should follow once a month followed by once every 3 months. This is just an estimation, actually it is depends on your condition. While some people feel relief immediately or after a few treatments, some people with chronic or long-standing health problems may require more visits to achieve lasting change. We think it might need take three  times longer to relieve your problem than times that you have had the problem.”
