Japan invites Indian students, youths to JENESYS 2018

Eighty students and youths from India are travelling to Japan to participate in JENESYS 2018 – Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths.

The Indian participants were drawn from various high schools, college graduates, and some of them were working professionals as well.

Being held between November 2018 and February 2019, about 3500 students and youths from across the world participate in this annual mega event held by Japanese government to promote mutual trust and understanding among the peoples of Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, and to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation.

The event also aims at encouraging an understanding of Japan’s economics, society, history, diverse culture, politics and diplomatic relations.

This year, in cooperation with AFS India, Japan invited four groups of 20 students/youths each based on different themes. They will all stay in Japan for about 10 days.

The selected participants, after arriving in Japan on December 5, had a Post-Arrival Orientation, and thereafter, moved to the local cities and experience Japanese Culture and Technology through exchange programs and home staying held in various places.

The themes included Sports Exchange (Hockey), Environmental Technology Exchange Science and Technology Exchange and Japanese Communication and Cultural Exchange. They are scheduled to visit Okuizumo Town, Shimane Prefecture, Fukuoka Prefecture, Miyazaki Prefecture, Oita Prefecture, Aichi Prefecture, Shimane Prefecture, Tottori Prefecture, Kyoto Prefecture, Osaka Prefecture and Hiroshima Prefecture.

At the JENESYS 2018, the participants from India are likely to attend lectures about Japanese politics, economics, society, history, culture, and diplomatic relations to promote a better understanding of Japan.

They are also scheduled to visit educational sites and institutions, high-tech and traditional industries, world heritage sites, provincial government office; and participating in cross-cultural events, workshops, and discussions with local people.

Participating in hands-on learning experience such as home-stays or home-visits, and cultural arts events and conveying information about Japan’s attractions through reporting sessions or Social Networking Services during / after the program are also part of the schedule.

The visiting youths are also supposed to visit Japanese companies, ODA sites, and educational sites, research institutions; and participating in cross-cultural events, workshops, and discussions with local people.

Some of them would also participate in hands-on learning experiences such as home-stays or home-visits, and cultural arts events.
