NEW DELHI: Haryana government has offered multiple locations to leading global manufacturers of air-conditioning systems Daikin India in and around Gururgram.

Having set up two manufacturing and one R&D facilities in industrial hub Neemrana on Delhi-Jaipur expressway in the neighboring state Rajasthan at the cumulative investment of over Rs. 2100 crores, Daikin is looking for a patch of land for its 3rd manufacturing facility. The estimated investment outlay for its next project ranges between Rs. 600 and 1000 crores.

The new development took place during a hi-level video-conferencing held between top-notch executives of 35 Japanese companies as well as JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and JCCII (Japan chamber of Commerce and Industry in India) representatives with senior Haryana government officials. The event was coordinated by Invest India.

The Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Ambassador of Japan to India Satoshi Suzuki recently were also present in the meeting.

Toshiharu Tsurumaru, Deputy Managing Director, Daikin Airconditioning India Private Limited, a 100% subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd., Japan, a global leader in the manufacturing of commercial-use and residential air conditioning systems, was also present in the meeting.

According to highly placed sources privy to the development of this virtual meeting, the Haryana government officials offered three locations to Daikin for its next project – Manesar, Gurugram, and Sohna.

The Daikin officer would get back to the state government in about two weeks’ time with their preference of location for their next ‘project’, which they didn’t reveal.

However, the Haryana government’s offer to give land to the Japanese investors on a long-term lease basis didn’t go down well with the latter. Japanese companies indicated that they preferred the outright purchase of land instead of going for the lease model.

Similarly, Japanese technology major NEC Technologies India too showed its interest to further expand its operations in Haryana. NEC Technologies has already carried out one project with Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and changed its smart city control center into a war room to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

While describing Haryana as a favourite destination for foreign investors, Haryana CM Khattar said a large number of leading Japanese companies including Honda, Maruti Suzuki, Canon, Daiken, NEC Technologies, Mitsui, Unicharm, Munjal Kiriu who already have their bases in Haryana evinced keen interest in making further investments in Haryana through expanding their industrial units.

According to Kenji Sugino, Secretary-General, JCCII, the Japanese firm raised concerns related to a list of good hospitals in Gurugram, visa, and cross border movement between Delhi and Haryana NCR towns, and many of these concerns have been addressed too.
