NEW DELHI: The story of India’s support to South Korea in the Korean War (1950-53) will now reach hundreds of thousands of households and institutions in India through the year 2022 calendar, which the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Delhi has published in the English language.

The office of Defence Attaché has got the year 2022 calendar published with the title KAAR SALAM (Do Salute) – A Heartiest Tribute to Veterans of the Korean War.

As it is known that the Indian government had rushed its 60th Para Field Ambulance Hospital paratroopers to provide medical service to the injured soldiers during the Korean War.

Each month of the calendar carries black and white photographs of the Indian soldiers participating in the war and helping the wounded soldiers of South Korea right in the middle of the battlefield.

However, interestingly, the very first leaf of the calendar, the January month page carries the 500 Won ( Korean currency) postal stamp issued in 1951 by the Korean government to honour and acknowledge India’s participation in the Korean War that took off with North Korea in 1950 and ended in 1953, for the four years. This photograph is, however, the coloured one.

As the year 2021 marks the 71st Anniversary of the Indian Army’s Participation in the Korean War, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in India Chang Jae-bok and Defence Attaché Captain Choi Yongseok met the Korean War Veterans and their families during the dinner hosted for them in November in New Delhi.

Prior to this in 2020, Lieutenant Colonel A G Rangaraj, the Commanding Officer of 60 Para Field Ambulance of the Indian Army had secured an important place in the annual calendar published for the Korean War veterans by the Korean Ministry of Patriots & Veterans Affairs. But this calendar was published in Korea in the Korean language.

Lt. Col. A G Rangaraj was declared Korean War Hero for the month of July 2020 by the Korean ministry in recognition of the contribution of the Indian Army in the inter-Korean War (1950-53).
