March 1: Tokyo hosts Zero Carbon City International Forum 2023” Wednesday

TOKYO: In order to accelerate subnational climate actions globally by sharing leading practices across borders, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) and the Office of Special Presidential Envoy for Climate (SPEC), the United States of America, together are organizing “Zero Carbon City International Forum 2023” tomorrow on Wednesday, March 1 in Tokyo.

This year, the forum intends to discuss measures to promote cooperation between national and subnational governments, given the upcoming “G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment in Sapporo” to be held on April 15 and 16, 2023.

The forum also aims to expand and widely disseminate integrated urban initiatives through sharing advanced practices on net-zero transition, resilience and multiple benefits.

HISAMOTO Kizo, Mayor of Kobe,  AKIMOTO Katsuhiro, Mayor of Sapporo (online), Jean-Eric Paquet Ambassador of the EU to Japan, and Dr. Peter Kurz, Lord Mayor of Mannheim will be the speakers of Opening and High Level Sessions.

Video message will be played for Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary, UNFCCC, and Mrs. Katja Dörner Lord Mayor of Bonn.

Other speakers in Part 1 include TAKEUCHI Yoshiki, Deputy Secretary-General, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) (Video), ONO Hiroshi, Vice Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of the Environment, Japan, Ms. Jeni Arndt, Mayor of Fort Collins, and Yunus Arikan, Head of Global Policy and Advocacy, ICLEI World Secretariat.
