Taiwan Can Help: Taiwan’s Mei Ho University Donates Covid-19 Test Kits To Mizoram

TAIPEI: In its bid to strengthen ties with Indian north-eastern state Meroram for many initiatives including education, the Mei Ho University, Taiwan, has donated of COVID-19 test kits.

The Mei Ho University was introduced to India by the efforts of Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) that acts as a bridge between India and the Universities in Taiwan.

Education Division will introduce Mei Ho University to the Mizoram state government for further strengthening educational ties between the two nations. Mei Ho University donated Covid-19 test kits developed by Peptide Cham Biotech Ltd. to the state.

The Mizoram government also officially thanked Mei Ho University for this kind gesture. The first dispatch of the test kits arrived last week and will be a great help to the state for keeping a check on suspected COVID-19 patients. There will be a second dispatch of 10000 test kits reaching soon.

Earlier, the Taiwan government donated 1 million surgical masks to India, and some of these were dispatched to Mizoram also. This donation from a private university and industry showed that people are helping each other in a global village during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taiwan’s government and universities successfully fought COVID-19 and continue to make efforts on promoting international collaboration and industrial cooperation, providing more opportunities in practice for students toward internationalization.

Peters Chen, Director of Education Division, TECC, said,” Mei Ho University (MHU), established in 1966, is the first private nursing junior college in Taiwan. For the past 54 years, Meiho has not only cultivated a great number of excellent nursing professionals but also endeavored to strengthen and promote educational and service qualities. Most graduates are able to practice what they have learned in school as well as being acknowledged by the medical field with their expertise and capabilities.:

“We hope, in the post-COVID-19 era, there is an opportunity to provide certificate courses for young people in Mizoram. By completing the courses, students will be successful in acquiring professional licenses or certificates in nursing, Basic Life Support (BLS), or Advanced Life Support (ACLS), as a guarantee for their careers. The tailored program and scholarships can be conducted through the Taiwan Education Centre established in Mizoram in the future,” he added.
