Indian Schools Teaching Japanese Invited to Fully Funded Conference in Japan
Opportunity allows selected K-12 institutions to represent India at International Japanese Language Education Conference on August 3, 2026
New Delhi: In a major opportunity for Indian schools promoting Japanese language learning, the Japan Education Center And Information Foundation (JECI) has invited applications from K-12 schools in India for fully funded participation in the International Conference on Japanese Language Education, scheduled to be held in Japan on August 3, 2026.
The conference is being organized by Kake Educational Institution, one of Japan’s prominent educational groups, which has a wide network comprising universities, colleges, skill development institutions and K-12 schools. The initiative aims to encourage global academic collaboration and strengthen Japanese language education in international school systems, including in India.
JECI, which serves as the official satellite office of Kake Educational Institution in India, has said that Indian schools that have already introduced Japanese language education for their students are eligible to apply for consideration. Selected institutions will have the opportunity to participate in the conference as representatives from India and to present their commitment to Japanese language education on an international platform.
The programme is fully funded for selected participating institutions. Major expenses, including international airfare, accommodation, meals and local transportation in Japan, will be covered under the initiative.
Calling it an important moment for Indian schools engaged in Japanese language education, Capt Raj Adhikari said the initiative would help Indian institutions move beyond classroom-level exposure and connect directly with Japan’s academic ecosystem.
“This is not merely a conference invitation; it is a bridge between Indian schools and Japan’s educational institutions. Schools that have taken the initiative to introduce Japanese language education will now have a chance to showcase their work in Japan and explore meaningful academic collaborations,” said Capt Raj Adhikari.
According to JECI, the opportunity is open to K-12 schools currently conducting Japanese language programmes for their students. Interested schools are required to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) on the school’s official letterhead. The LOI must be duly signed by the Trustee or Management and affixed with the official school seal.
Applications must be sent by email to edupr@jeci.co.in. The last date for submission is June 24, 2026.
Capt Raj Adhikari said that Japanese language education has steadily gained relevance in India, particularly as India-Japan cooperation expands in areas such as education, technology, manufacturing, skill development, mobility, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
“Japanese language learning can open new academic and career pathways for Indian students. When schools introduce Japanese at an early stage, they are not only teaching a language but also exposing students to discipline, culture, innovation and global opportunities associated with Japan,” he said.
The initiative is also expected to encourage more Indian schools to consider Japanese-language education as part of their international curricula and global exposure programmes. With Japan facing demographic challenges and India emerging as a major talent base, language education is increasingly being seen as a key connector between the two countries.
JECI has clarified that submission of the Letter of Intent will not automatically guarantee selection. Participation will be subject to review and final invitation by the organizing institution in Japan.
For schools already running Japanese-language classes, the conference could become an important platform for building institutional partnerships, learning from Japan’s education system, interacting with Japanese academic leaders, and exploring future exchange possibilities.

Capt Raj Adhikari added that the initiative should be seen as a recognition of schools that have taken early steps toward building India-Japan educational linkages.
“Indian schools selected for this programme will carry an important responsibility. They will represent India’s growing interest in Japanese language education and can return with ideas, partnerships and inspiration to further strengthen Japanese learning in their own institutions,” he said.
The International Conference on Japanese Language Education is expected to bring together educators, institutional representatives and academic stakeholders committed to promoting Japanese language learning. For India, the participation of schools could add a new dimension to the already growing educational and cultural engagement with Japan.
JECI has invited eligible schools to submit their applications within the deadline and seek further clarification regarding the acceptable format of the Letter of Intent, if required.
