New Delhi: Taiwan’s rich cultural traditions will come alive in the national capital today as the Taiwan Education Centre, under the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India and TEC, O.P. Jindal Global University, hosts a special Dragon Boat Festival celebration titled “Rhythm of the Dragon Boat”.

Being organized today at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC), the de facto embassy of Taiwan in New Delhi, the event is designed as an intimate cultural gathering. It aims to introduce Indian participants to one of Taiwan’s most cherished traditional festivals through cultural interaction, traditional experiences and hands-on festive activities.

The Dragon Boat Festival is deeply rooted in Chinese and Taiwanese cultural heritage and is celebrated with symbolic traditions, community participation and festive rituals. In Taiwan, the festival is popularly associated with dragon boat racing, traditional food, fragrant sachets and customs that reflect wishes for health, protection and good fortune.

The New Delhi celebration will begin with a guest reception on the ground floor of the venue. This will be followed by a welcome address by Ambassador Dr. Mumin Chen and an introduction to the Dragon Boat Festival from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the basement hall.

A traditional Taiwanese tea-tasting session will be held from 2:30 pm to 2:45 pm, offering invitees an opportunity to experience Taiwan’s refined tea culture. From 2:45 pm onwards, participants will join cultural workshops and interactive activities, including a sachet DIY workshop, one of the key highlights of the celebration.

The event poster describes the programme as a celebration of one of Taiwan’s most cherished cultural festivals and notes that participation is limited to 20 invitees. The limited-seat format is expected to allow participants to engage more closely with Taiwanese traditions and understand the cultural significance of the Dragon Boat Festival in a more personal and interactive setting.

The celebration also reflects Taiwan’s continuing efforts to strengthen cultural and educational engagement with India. Through language education, cultural workshops, festival-based interactions and academic outreach, the Taiwan Education Centre has been playing an important role in deepening people-to-people understanding between the two sides.

The June 12 programme will include ambassadorial remarks, an introduction to the festival, traditional tea tasting, reception, cultural activities and opportunities for participants to experience Taiwan’s festive spirit in New Delhi.
