Konnichiwa Pune 2021: Look for Rich Japanese cultural shows, fusion of Indo-Japanese culture and Indian cultural performances by Japanese natives

PUNE (Maharashtra):  One of the most significant attractions during the annual Indo-Japanese cultural-business festival – Konnichiwa Pune 2021 on November 19-21, is going to be the series of cultural events that are all set to bring the world of Japan to the Indian audience.

Some of the major attractions of the event that introduce rich and age-old Japanese culture include Japanese Tea Ceremony (sadō) by Ms. Kazuko Barisic, Origami demo by Origami Mitra, Pune, Ikebana Demo by Ikenobo Ikebana Chapter Pune, Good Health and Prosperity for All: Kikusen Maruichi’s Edo Daikagura (皆様の健康と繁栄を祈って:菊仙の江戸太神楽), Kimono wearing demo by Ms. Haruna Tsunoda (Peace Culture), Furoshiki Demo by Ms. Kazuko Barisic, Kathak dance by Ms. Hiroko Sarah, Lecture on Omotenashi By Kazuko-san, and Sayuki (Dr. Fiona Graham)–Geisha at Fukagawa -An anthropologist inside the flower and willow world of the geisha of Japan.

And to talk about the Indian culture Konnichiwa Pune 2021 has on its palate to offer the Nagaland Cuisine Food Show by Ms. Sentila Yanger Ao, the Recipients of Padma Shri Award from Nagaland 2008, Bharatanatyam performance from Japan at a temple by Kansai Japan India Cultural Society (KJICS), In Conversation with Megumu Ishiguro – Profoundness of India discovered through My Lecture Tour on Indo-Japan Collaboration Animation “Ramayana” (日印合作アニメ「ラーマヤナ」講演旅行を通じて見えたインドの奥深さ), and Indo-Japanese Rap Song by Team Mystic Jounetsu (Ibex, Kushmir & Hiroko Sarah).

The audience must set themselves for the big show this time in the form of ‘Indo-Japanese classical music crossover’ by T M Hoffman, a US-born, four-decade Asia resident artist and ethnomusicologist, and Director of Indo-Japanese Music Exchange Association, as it is going to be a major event this year’s Konnichiwa Pune 2021.

Hoffman studied piano in the USA, shakuhachi under Living National Treasure YAMAGUCHI Goro (Tokyo), and Hindustani vocal music under Pdt. Ganesh Prasad MISHRA (Lucknow).

His innovations with shakuhachi, koto, and Japanese poetry in Hindustani music have graced major venues and broadcasts in Asia, N America, and Europe.

Hoffman has both graduated from and lectured three decades in major universities in USA, Japan & India, and published widely on interdisciplinary and cross-professional topics in education, business, and diplomacy, receiving various international awards.

The 3-day extravaganza Konnichiwa Pune 2021 being organized virtually by the Indo-Japan Business Council (IJBC) and Consulate General of Japan, Mumbai on November 19-21, will bring to life the Indo-Japanese fusion in the form of cultural shows, food workshops, education fairs, panel discussions, specific talk shows, besides business sessions.

The Konnichiwa Pune’s second edition was held at Phoenix Marketcity Mall in Pune on November 15-17 and attracted over 10,000 audiences. IJBC’s first event Konnichiwa Pune 2019 was a 2-day event.

Siddharth Deshmukh, Co-Founder, and President, IJBC said that one of the major attractions this time during Konnichiwa Pune 2021 is going to be Geisha from Fukagawa, Japan.

“Geisha are a class of female Japanese performance artists and entertainers trained in traditional Japanese performing arts styles, such as dance, music, and singing, as well as being proficient conversationalists and hosts. Their distinct appearance is characterized by long, trailing kimono, traditional hairstyles, and oshiroi make-up,” said Mr. Deshmukh.
