Miss Sake Japan Ms Kotoko Yamada to crown Miss Sake India at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai today

The winner of the title Miss Sake India will represent India at the 2024 Miss Sake World pageant to be held in Japan in June this year.

NEW DELHI: Mumbai – the Indian city of Bollywood stars would play host to 2024 Miss Sake India pageant today when the Miss Sake Japan Ms Kotoko Yamada would crown Miss Sake India. As many as 30 beautiful women aged 20-39 would be contesting for the coveted Miss Sake India title today at the World Trade Centre.

Currently touring India, Ms Kotoko Yamada is the 10th Miss SAKE Japan who was crowned for this title on June 23rd last year at the final selection event of the 2023 Miss SAKE competition at The Westin Miyako Kyoto.

Miss Sake pageant is the global beauty contest organized by Japan to promote its traditional rice wine across the world.

Miss Sake India will represent India at the Miss Sake World pageant to be held in Japan in June 2024.

Ms Kotoko Yamada who in her day job provides consulting services to Japanese companies on the overseas expansion of their businesses, is accompanying seven sake breweries visiting India. Kojiro Honda co-owner and founder of Hirohama India and Kuuraku India, who has been recently appointed as the Japanese Liquor Import Coordinator for India by Japan’s National Tax Authority, led this delegation of sake breweries from Japan. On this occasion, Ms Yamada made a presentation on sake brewing for the India-based importers of sake and wines.

According to Mika Onishi, Representative Director, Miss SAKE Association, Japan the first Miss Sake India event was held in February 2020 just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world.

“This is the second time now that we are organizing 2024 Miss Sake India event in India, which was conceptualized recently. In last one and half month, we have received 30 applicants for the contest. The winner would be chosen through a duly organized and well laid out process in Mumbai on Friday,” she added. Mika Onishi is a Master of Sake and WSET Certified Japanese Tea Instructor.

During the first Miss Sake India pageant organized in February 2020 in New Delhi, Upasna Gurung, the 26-year-old girl from Nagaland was awarded the first Miss Sake India 2020 title. A total of 14 contestants from across India had participated in the event.

Ms. Sae Haruta, Miss Sake Japan 2019 crowned Upasna with the honor as she broke into tears after being announced the winner of the contest at The Kimono Club in New Delhi on February 21.

With this event, India had joined the league of the six nations other than Japan where Miss Sake events are organized.
