Gangnam Style, Natu-Natu to rock at 50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup

In its bid to promote cultural exchange, the event would witness Indian and Korean participants including Korean Ambassador tap their feet to Gangnam style and the Oscar winning Natu Natu track on April 15.

NEW DELHI: Having created history worldwide, Korean and Indian twin numbers Gangnam style, and Natu-Natu are all set to will make the participants dance to their tunes during the 50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup being organised in Gurugram on April 15. Rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style”, which was recognized by Guinness World Records as the first YouTube video to hit 1 billion views in 2012 will be played on this occasion. And the song Naatu Naatu from the hit Telugu-language film RRR, which has made history by becoming the first Indian film song to win an Oscar will set the stage on fire with Korean participants including Ambassador Chang Jae-bok dancing to its tunes.

Ambassador Chang Jae-bok was in news recently when he along with his staff at the Embassy is New Delhi released a video showing him along with his staff dancing too Natu Natu tunes. It went viral on various social media streams and was widely covered by the Indian mainstream media as well. The Natu Natu blockbuster track won Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards, beating heavyweights like Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

Both popular tracks of their times would be played during the award ceremony of the 50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup on April 15.

Rapper Psy’s Gangnam style of music that became a global rage in 2012 is seen to be popular in India too, especially among dance music enthusiasts who seem to lose no opportunity to wriggle to the catchy Korean pop song. It also has been instrumental in making K-pop a sensation in India making millions of youths here fan of Korean pop.

And the Korean number “Gangnam Style” that won Best Video at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and became a source of parodies and reaction videos by many turned many global celebrities dance to its tunes including those from India.

When West Indies won the T20 World Cup, Chris Gayle performed the dance moves and was joined by his teammates with a Gangnam Style influenced by Barbados dance steps. Closely following was Indian celebrity cricketer Virat Kohli.

After India’s win over England in the dramatic Champions Trophy final, Virat Kohli decided to do a Gangnam Style celebration. He broke into the dance after the presentation and amused both fans and his teammates with his moves.

Even the political leaders such as British Prime Minister David Cameron and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who hailed the Gangnam Style as a force for world peace. On May 7, 2013, at a bilateral meeting with South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye at the White House, US President Barack Obama cited the success of “Gangnam Style” as an example of how people around the world are being “swept up” by the Korean wave of culture.

The 50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup is being organized by the Asian Community News (ACN) Network with the support of the Embassy of Korea and United Korean Community Association on April 15 at Golden Greens Golf Club, Gurugram as part of the year-long celebrations which both India and Korea are celebrating as the golden jubilee year of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

Besides music from both sides, the event would also witness Korean and Indian cuisines being served for the participants from both sides. The event would also witness Indians wearing Korean ethnic attire Hanboks, and Korean women wrapping around Indian traditional Sarees.

Besides the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Delhi, and the United Korean Community Association in India, all major institutions, either state-run, and otherwise such as KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency), KOCHAM (Korea Chamber of Commerce in India), KTO (Korea Tourism Oganization), and others have come forward to support the golfing event to make it a grand success.

Hyundai Motor, KIA Car, SAMSUNG Electronics, LG Electronics, POSCO International, NH NongHyup Bank, and others have also come in support of the 50th Anniversary India-Korea Friendship Golf Cup.
