Outplacement Services, A Win-Win Situation for both – Organization as well as Outgoing Employees

Outplacement is a service provided by some organizations to help outgoing employees to transition into new jobs. The support service is paid by the outgoing employer and usually performed by consultancy firms.

This type of service is arranged by HR departments when employees are let go due to downsizing events or individual lay-offs. The outgoing employee is provided with training materials, workshops, and even psychological support.

Besides, assistance is offered for updating resume, practical advice on the job market, mock interviews for future job offers.

Why is this service needed?

The service is required considering that layoffs can be one of the most stressful things for the employee and the HR personnel. This can also be damaging to the organization’s reputation.

The organization’s reputation may greatly depend on the way an outgoing employee is treated during layoffs. Providing this service to outgoing employees shows that the organization cares about the employees’ future.

The traditional approach is usually limited to organizations partnering with job coaches who meet the outgoing employees to discuss what he/she needs to find a new job.

However, with the advent of technology, some organizations have begun using online platforms and one-on-one coaching sessions to provide outplacement service to anyone, anywhere.

Some outplacement firms provide an outgoing employee with a specific time limit to find a job. Failure to do so would mean there is no guarantee the employee will find a job.

Thus, with the right plan and approach, outplacement services can be a win-win situation for both, the organization as well as its outgoing employees during layoffs.
