This Dipawali: Plant a Tree, Say no to crackers

From Sunday, a group of residents, corporate employees and volunteers of social organisations will come together and hit the streets to exhort the people to shun the use of crackers this Diwali and instead plant trees.

The campaign would span for three days till Tuesday (November 4-6), till a day before the festival of lights Diwali, which is being celebrated across the country on Wednesday, November 7.

The 3-day campaign is being led by a social organization working in the field of environment protection Socio-Motto and being supported by EDP Services.

“We will spread the message of green environment by planting as well as distributing tree samplings to the people at various locations in Gurgaon. Our slogan would read as ‘Plant the tree, Say no to crackers’. We will call upon the people to plant trees and shun the use of fire-crackers to keep a control on the pollution level that’s shoots up on the Diwali day,” said Jagdish Kukreja, the president of Socio-Motto.

The volunteers would approach people at busy market places like Galleria Market, Bayopaar Kendra of Sushant Lok-I, South City II market and City Centre Mall in Malibu Towne.

They may gift tree saplings to the motorists at various traffic junctions during the campaign.
