Jan 28: Four-day 11th Japan Festival takes off in Ahmedabad on Saturday

Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to India will inaugurate the fest where Indian and Japanese performers will jointly present musical performances.

AHMEDABAD: To mark the 70th anniversary of the “Establishment of Diplomatic Relations” between Japan and India, and Commemorating and Rejoicing historic bonds of Indo-Japan Friendship through showcasing the Best of Japanese Culture, Fine Arts, Films and Martial Arts, the Japan Information and Study Centre at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) in association with Indo-Japan Friendship Association Gujarat and the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai has organized the 11th Japan Festival from January 28 to 31at AMA.

Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to India will inaugurate the 11th Japan Festival and address on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm at AMA. Indian and Japanese performers will jointly present Musical Performances on the eventful occasion of the Inauguration.

The 11th Japan Festival at AMA is featuring an Exhibition of “Manga Hokusai Manga Art Show”, “Japanese Films Fiesta” through the Screening of four International Award Winning Japanese Films i.e. “Sinbad” and “Neko Ninja” on 28th January from 2 pm, and “Pop in Q” and “Every Day a Good Day” on 29th January, 2023 from 3 pm; learning about “Zen-Kaizen Practices” through the talk on “Zen in Everyday Life” by Dr. Himanshu Buch, Shoshin and The Zen Corporate Monk on 28th January, 2023 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and “Kaizen in Everyday Life” by Rohit Shahane Manager-Operations, KHS Machinery Pvt. Ltd. on 28th January, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

On Sunday, January 29, 2023, “KEM CHHE – KONNICHIWA,” an Innovative Musical Fusion is going to be presented by Japanese & Gujarati from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon; and “FUN WITH ORIGAMI” i.e. Japanese Paper Craft Demonstration & Workshop is organized from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. The key attractions of the Musical Fusion Program include Singing of the Indian National Anthem and Japanese National Anthem; Indo-Japan Fusion of Garba & Bharatnatyam; Solo and Chorus Musical presentation of popular Bollywood songs related to Japan by Japanese; and performance of popular Japanese Songs by Indian.

JAPANESE MARTIAL ARTS EXPO:

In commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of The Indo-Japan Exchange Program between Gujarat University & Otemon Gakuin University First of its Kind in India, Japanese Martial Arts Expo is organized. Collaborative Performances of Shorinji Kempo & Karate by Star Performers from Japan & Gujarat are going to be presented on 30th January, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Auditorium; and on 31st January, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at AMA.

Gujarat has shared a cherished relationship with Japan and the two have come closer and closer since January, 2009, when Japan became the First Ever Country Partner of Gujarat at the then Vibrant Gujarat Celebrations. The Japan Information and Study Centre at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) and the Indo-Japan Friendship Association of Gujarat (IJFA) have successfully organized ten festivals over the past fourteen years from 2009 to 2023, unfolding Japan in its vibrant colour and splendour and providing a meaningful and fascinating insight into Japanese art, culture, values and life style. All these ten festivals met with overwhelming response and appreciation from thousands of Japan loving viewers and participants.
