Indian Korean Language Teachers Learn to Make Kimchi at KEC to Get Closer to Korean Culture
Besides language, learning Korean culture was the objective behind the Kimchi Making Workshop.
New Delhi, India — The Korean Education Centre (KEC) India successfully organized a Kimchi Making Workshop for its local Indian Korean language teachers, providing an engaging opportunity to deepen their understanding of Korean culture ahead of the new academic semester.
The workshop was designed with a clear educational objective: to equip teachers with authentic cultural knowledge that complements Korean language instruction. As language and culture are closely intertwined, the programme emphasized that experiencing Korean traditions firsthand enables teachers to create richer and more meaningful learning experiences for their students.
The event also served as a pre-semester gathering, bringing together KEC’s teaching community to share important information about the upcoming semester, discuss coursework and academic plans, and strengthen collaboration among teachers before classes begin.
One of the highlights of the programme was a hands-on kimchi-making session, where participants learned about the history, ingredients, nutritional value, and cultural significance of Korea’s most iconic traditional food. Teachers enthusiastically prepared kimchi themselves, experiencing an important aspect of Korean culinary heritage rather than simply learning about it in theory.
The workshop concluded with a fellowship dinner, during which participants enjoyed a meal together featuring the freshly made kimchi. The shared dining experience reflected the Korean spirit of community and hospitality, creating an atmosphere of friendship and cultural exchange.
