Seong-Heum Park is new chief of KOSMA – Korean Small & Medium Enterprises Association in India

Park who took over the reins of KOSMA from Y K Lee, Former India Director of Hyundai Motor India, has pledged to make KOSMA active, and also later set up regional chapters across India.

NEW DELHI: Seong-Heum Park, Managing Director, Focustek Manufacturing Service Private Limited – a small-medium Korean enterprise, is the new chief of the Korean Small & Medium Enterprises Association (KOSMA) in India.

Formed in 2018 with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India and KOTRA (Korea-Trade Investment Agency) to facilitate smooth entry of Korean SMEs into India, KOSMA aims at working hard to bridge the gap between Korea and India in the SME sector. India has about 700 Korean SMEs operating here.

Seong-Heum Park has succeeded Y K Lee to become the chairman of KOSMA. Mr. Lee, the Former India Director of Hyundai Motor India where he worked for 29 years. Mr. Lee who was in India between 2007-2011 and 2014-2016, was the first chairman of KOSMA.

Seong-Heum Park (61) founded Focustek Manufacturing Service in 2007 in Gurugram. A leading service provider in Electronic PCB Assembly, Focustek is engaged in SMT Production & MI Production technology products at its Manesar-based ultra-modern plant. It is also into automotive electronics parts assembly manufacturing and DC Motor parts assembly manufacturing as well as electrical vehicles (EV) motor control assembly.

A pass-out of Graduate School of Ajou University, Mr. Park worked for Samsung Electronics for nine years during 1979-1988. He also worked as Matsushita Electric Industrial Agent in Korea for 11 years during 1988-1999. In, 2001, Mr. Park set up Engineering Services in Korea, and ventured into India in 2007 to set up FMS.

In an interview with Asian Community News Network, Mr. Park said that he was going to make KOSMA active and create its image as an ideal SME association in the coming months and later would set up regional chapters across India.

“I have plans to make the Delhi NCR chapter of KOSMA active as the last two years were affected by Corona pandemic. I will soon be starting contact the member companies and also add more SMEs into KOSMA. We are also planning to be more active on SNS,” said Mr. Park.

It was in August 2019, when KOSMA had signed a mutual “help each other” agreement with India’s national MSME body – the Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME).

Both the sides had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the intent of assisting each other in boosting investment and facilitating smooth entry and functioning of Korean SMEs into India.

However, the following years 2020 and 2021 were largely marred with Corona pandemic-induced lockdown and slowdowns, and nothing much could be done.
