Japanese Film Festival to Bring Acclaimed Cinema to IIM Nagpur 

August 16–17: Three award-winning Japanese films to be showcased in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai, celebrating cultural exchange through cinema.

Mumbai, India — The Indo-Japan Research Center (IJRC) at IIM Nagpur, in partnership with the Japan Foundation and the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai, is set to host a two-day Japanese Film Festival on August 16 and 17, 2025, at the institute’s Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH).

The event will feature three acclaimed Japanese films, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience the depth, artistry, and cultural richness of Japanese cinema.

The festival will commence on Saturday, August 16, with a 10-minute inauguration ceremony at 9:00 AM, followed by a welcome speech introducing IJRC and the distinguished guests. Attendees will then hear addresses from the Director of IIM Nagpur, the Dean, and the Consul-General of Japan in Mumbai, setting the tone for a celebration of cultural exchange and creative collaboration.

The opening day’s screenings begin at 10:00 AM with “We Make Antiques!”, directed by Masaharu Take, a lighthearted yet thought-provoking comedy revolving around the world of antique dealing and forgery.

After a lunch break, the second screening at 2:45 PM will present “Nosari – Impermanent Eternity”, directed by Tatsuya Yamamoto, a contemplative drama exploring themes of mortality, human connection, and rural life in Japan.

On Sunday, August 17, the festival will continue at 10:30 AM with “Awake”, directed by Atsuhiro Yamada. This compelling drama follows the story of a young shogi player-turned-AI programmer, weaving together human ambition and technological innovation.

The screening will be followed by a vote of thanks, concluding the two-day cinematic celebration.

The Japanese Film Festival at IIM Nagpur is more than an entertainment event—it is an initiative to foster cultural understanding between India and Japan.

By showcasing authentic Japanese storytelling, the festival invites film enthusiasts, students, and the Nagpur community to engage with narratives that transcend borders.

The event is open to all, with entry free of charge, and is expected to draw a vibrant mix of cinema lovers, academicians, and members of the Indo-Japanese community.
