Japanese Language Training Centre set up at 11000 ft height in Leh-Ladakh

This Centre has plans to introduce placement and ‘Study-in-Japan’ opportunities for the local students here, and serve them employment opportunities in Japan.

LEH-LADAKH (INDIA): Situated at an altitude of over 11,000 feet from sea level in the North Eastern region of India, Leh-Ladakh now has a Japanese language training centre. Children in Leh-Ladakh which is hustled in extremely tough living conditions as temperature here drops to minus 20 degree Celsius during winters, are now studying the basic nuances of Japanese language and culture at this centre called NIHONKAI.

Recently opened in the heart of Leh-Ladakh city, this centre currently has 15 students on board which includes school-goers. They started to come to study Japanese here during winters when temperature dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius, and their schools remain closed.

“The prime objective behind opening a Japanese language training centre in such a remote place is to create learning environment for these children as their schools remain shut during the peak winter season. We have long-term plans to introduce placement and ‘Study-in-Japan’ opportunities for the local students here, and serve them employment opportunities in Japan,” says Ashima Mehta, Founder of NIHONKAI Japanese Training Institute and Placement Centre with its headquarter in New Delhi for the last 14 years.

Ashima is an experienced and trained Japanese language professional (N-1 level), and she completed research for two years at Osaka University as a government scholar.

The average literacy level is about 77 percent in this scattered populated (3 persons per kilometer) region with low employment opportunities.

“Various teaching methodologies are followed by Native Japanese teachers visual learning method being one of them, to make the learning most effective. Besides the Japanese language, our training also focused on the culture and ethics of Japan. Our school is located in the center of Leh-Ladakh City at a very prime location making it convenient for the students and professionals to commute without any hassles. As we grow in future, we plan to introduce placement and study in japan opportunities for the students of Ladakh,” said Ashima.

NIHONKAI in Delhi offers Japanese language courses ranging from Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Business Japanese to over 500 in-house students per year coming from more than 20 small cities in India. Besides that, it also conducts corporate lessons for the professionals associated with Japanese nationals, or to those going onsite for research and development.

India with a population of more than 1.3 billions currently has about 35,000 people learning Japanese language as compared to one million in China. This comparative statistic itself talks volume of the huge scope of Japanese language learning has in it store for its people.
