Korean Martial Art Taekwondo performance engrosses Delhi

New Delhi. Embassy of The Republic of Korea and Korean Culture Centre India recently organized “Korea Taekwondo Performance” at Jesus and Mary College Chanakyapuri.

The event was highlighted by the performance of Korea’s leading Taekwondo performance team- Korea National Taekwondo Demo Team.

The event was witnessed by Shin Bong-kil, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kim Kum-pyoung – Director of Korean Culture Centre, Yoo Chang-ho Minister Counsellor and enthralling audience.

Shin Bong-kil said that Taekwondo is very helpful particularly for women, it is a very good way of defending oneself.

“I think this form of martial art could be good for India too. I am happy to see a very successful performance by the Korean national team and it was pleasant to see the K-pop performance too, which is gradually gaining an audience in India. I hope that Korean Culture like K-pop and Taekwondo helps in strengthening and understanding both the nations,” he said.

Kim Kum Pyoung Director of KCCI said, “I am so happy that today at Jesus and Mary college we had K-pop and Taekwondo performance. This college was the first ever to organize K pop event themselves. Today’s performances depicted the Korean colors and the Korean background, we see Taekwondo and K pop as a spirit of Korean culture.”

The Korea National Taekwondo Demo Team was on India tour as performing in Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad earlier this week, before the event at the capital.

The team not only displayed diverse technical performances of high risk but also the decorum of Taekwondo which ranges from courtesy, endurance, concentration, self- conscience to the spirit of overcoming difficulty, invulnerability and esprit de corps in their demonstration.

The team has been playing the role of ambassador-at-large of Taekwondo for more or less 30 years on various important domestic occasions as well as through numerous overseas performances in 100 foreign countries covering 6 Continents and 5 Oceans of the Globe.

The team with the excellence of performance, mastery of delicate technical skills and a high degree of display of esprit de corps has been performing at international events, such as the opening ceremony of the 24th Seoul Olympic Games in 1988.

Taekwondo, Korean martial art (sport), is known as South Korea’s national sports. Since it became an official Olympic sport in 2000, the new international martial art has been disseminated in 203 countries, performed by approximately 80 million practitioners.
