Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai, along with Christ University Bengaluru, hosts a traditional music performance for the public on September 24th 2025
Bengaluru, India – The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai, in collaboration with the Centre for Korean Studies at Christ University, Bengaluru, co-hosted a public music performance on September 24, 2025.
The event featured a music performance by Sanare, a 6-member music instrumentation group from Korea, comprising the Gayageum, Daegum, Violin, Cello, Janggu, and Piano.
Sanare harmoniously blends traditional Korean and Western instruments to create music that appeals with its variety and timbre. It was not their first time performing in India. They also performed in 2023 in Chennai.
This is the second time that the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai is co-hosting a performance team in Bengaluru with Christ University.
In 2023, 48 theatre artists & staff from Ulsan Metropolitan Dance Company visited and performed for the public audience in the Garden City. This was wholeheartedly welcomed by the entire audience, including the Korean community living in the city.
Sanare, a 6-member instrumental group, features the Gayageum, Daegum, Violin, Cello, and Piano, and showcases ‘Song for Peace’. Sanare performed through an interactive fusion concert called ‘Playing with K-Music’, which blends the Korean traditional game Yutnori with live music.
The Yut board spans from conventional to modern Korean music. The audience throws yut to decide the flow of the performance, which Sanare performed with its own musical colour.
Sanarae’s original songs, the Arirang series, and famous Indian songs were interpreted into Korean music, expressing the common emotion of love in a variety of colours. The event was open to the public for all who were keen on exploring Korean traditional music in India. The event began at 4.45 PM at the KE Auditorium, 5th floor, Block 4, Christ University main campus.
