50 artworks from Thailand, 25 from India exhibited to mark 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations

The contemporary art exhibition displays 75 masterpieces of artwork to coincide with the 75th Anniversary of Thailand and India relations as well as the 75 years of India’s independence.

NEW DELHI: The Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), organised the contemporary art exhibition under the theme “75th Anniversary: A Portrait of Indo – Thai Friendship” at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, during 20 – 31 August 2022. This exhibition is one of a series of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and India this year. The top diplomats including ambassadors and high commissioners from South Korea, Lao, Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar, Cambodia, and others also participated in the inaugural event.

The contemporary art exhibition displays 75 masterpieces of artwork to coincide with the 75th Anniversary of Thailand and India relations as well as the 75 years of India’s independence.

It is aimed to showcase the convergence of two different cultures of Thailand and India into one single unit and, at the same time,  feature the similarities, uniqueness and diversities of both countries’ cultures,   through the artworks’ techniques, style and expressions.

The Thai renowned artists from Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Art Center, led by Dr. Sangkom Thongmee, have supported this activity with their 50 artworks that have been brought all the way from Thailand to be displayed alongside their Indian counterparts’.

As many as 25 artworks being exhibited in this exhibition are from Indian artists.

The inauguration ceremony of this exhibition was held on 20 August 2022 and presided over by H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador of Thailand to India. Kumar Tuhin, Director General of ICCR, was present as the Chief Guest.

Foreign dignitaries and artists in New Delhi, high-level officers from relevant governmental organisations of India and media had a chance to meet the renowned Thai artists especially Saravudth Duangjumpa, Thailand’s National Artist 2017. He and the famous Indian artists gave the participants a rare chance to observe their techniques and styles to make the special painting live on stage. This was also a great opportunity for both Thai and Indian artists to interact and exchange their knowledge and specialties on arts.

Events to commemorate the 75 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and India have been organised throughout this year by the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi and the Royal Thai Consulate Generals in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai, including other Thai governmental agencies in India with the aim to enhancing bilateral relations and closer ties between the two countries and peoples.
