KOSMA Supports Hangeul Day 2025 Events at JNU and Manipur University
A Warm Bridge of Korea-India Cultural and Educational Exchange
New Delhi /Imphal, India — The Korean SMEs Association in India (KOSMA) extended its sponsorship to the Hangeul Day 2025 celebrations held at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Manipur University, marking a meaningful contribution to strengthening educational and cultural ties between Korea and India.
Financial and In-Kind Support for JNU Hangeul Day Event: KOSMA provided financial and in-kind support totalling ₹7,60,000 to the Centre for Korean Studies, JNU. The sponsorship aimed to facilitate the smooth organization of the Hangeul Day 2025 Celebrations (October 8–10) and to support students’ learning of the Korean language and culture.
The JNU event, co-hosted with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India, was attended by Ambassador Lee Sung-ho, KOSMA President Park Sung-heum, and Lee Kwang-il, President of the Korean Association in India, among other distinguished guests from academia and the Indo-Korean Friendship Association.
The three-day celebration featured a variety of programs, including Korean language contests, cultural performances, academic symposiums, and sports activities, highlighting the significance of Hangeul and the value of Korea–India cultural exchange.

This sponsorship represents KOSMA’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility by supporting Korean-language education institutions across India and by improving learning environments for local students.
Scholarships and Laptop Donation to Manipur University: KOSMA also extended its support to the Department of Korean Studies at Manipur University, contributing cash and goods worth ₹4,52,000. The donation included 11 laptops (10 refurbished and 1 new) to improve the students’ learning environment. In addition, 20 students received scholarships to assist with tuition and living expenses.
Professor Hyunkyung Lee of Manipur University’s Department of Korean Studies expressed her gratitude, stating, “We are deeply grateful to KOSMA for donating ₹1 lakh in scholarships and 11 laptops. The scholarships were distributed among 25 undergraduate and master’s students, each receiving ₹4,000 to help pay their semester registration fees. This support was especially meaningful for three students still residing in shelters following the 2023 Manipur ethnic conflict.”
She added, “Many students previously relied on their mobile phones for online classes, but with these laptops, they can now study and write theses more effectively. This donation has instilled a strong sense of pride and motivation among Korean language learners, and the university sincerely appreciates KOSMA’s support.”
Professor Lee further noted, “Manipur University has recently received approval from the Ministry of Education of India to establish a Ph.D. program in Korean Studies — the second in the nation. Over 80% of our first master’s graduates have already secured employment. This support serves as great encouragement for students in India’s northeastern hill region who dream of becoming a bridge between Korea and Northeast India.”
A Warm Bridge of Korea-India Cultural and Educational Exchange: KOSMA’s sponsorship exemplifies a heartfelt effort to share the spirit of Hangeul Day with students in India while providing tangible support for Korean language education. The initiative has further strengthened the people-to-people and cultural ties between the two countries.
Moving forward, KOSMA plans to continue collaborating with Indian universities and educational institutions to promote the Korean language and culture, nurture future talents, and expand its social contribution programs in India.
