Monsoon Skincare for Japanese & Korean Expats Living in Delhi: How to Adapt Your Routine

Delhi’s monsoon season—hot, humid, can be a shock to the skin, especially if you’re coming from the mild, relatively balanced climates of Japan or Korea.

Humidity can clog pores, disrupt your skin barrier, and trigger acne, fungal infections, or dullness. Though with a few mindful adjustments, your skin can stay healthy, glowing, and breakout-free:

1. Use a lightweight foaming cleanser or micellar water

2. Avoid Alcohol-based toners: Switch to lightweight, balancing toners with green tea, centella asiatica, or niacinamide. Thermal water sprays are a good choice as well!

3. Emulsion & Moisturiser: Light gel-based moisturisers or emulsions are ideal.

4. Sunscreen is Still Non-Negotiable: Cloudy doesn’t mean UV-free. UVB might be lower, but UVA (responsible for ageing and pigmentation) is still active.

✅ Choose non-comedogenic, gel-based sunscreens (SPF 30–50 PA++++)

✅ Reapply every 3-4 hours if you’re out—even if the sun isn’t visible

5. Watch for Fungal Acne & Humidity Breakouts: Prevent this by using zinc pyrithione or ketoconazole shampoo.

6. Keep it minimal: in this weather, keep layers to a minimum. A light water-based serum will do the trick instead of layering multiple serums at once. Keep them for the night, perhaps.

Basic Monsoon Routine:

• Cleanser (low pH gel)
• Hydrating toner
• Light serum with antioxidants
• Gel moisturizer
• Sunscreen usage on a daily basis
