PUAC Southwest Asia, MCC Chennai (India) promote awareness on ‘Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula’
An award ceremony of the Hangul Writing Contest and special lectures on peaceful reunification. More than 210 young Indians participated in the event. Appointed the world's first 'Global Youth Honorary PUAC Commissioner' to serve as a messenger of peace.
Chennai, India – On February 9, the Chennai Branch of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (PUAC) organised an extraordinary ceremony at the Madras Christian College (MCC), a prestigious private institution in South India, on the subject ‘Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula and Peaceful Coexistence in Asia’. More than 210 Indian youth of this 189-year-old prestigious college participated in this event.

The Chennai chapter of the PUAC is led by its Park Seung-so, while Park Euy-don is the Chairman of PUAC, Southwest Asia.
The event was hosted by the Chennai Branch of PUAC at the MCC Korean Language Institute (the Professor Lee Hwa-rang Advisory Committee). It was conducted as a substantive program comprising three sessions.
In the first session, the ‘4th Pretty Hangul Writing Contest’ award ceremony to pray for peace on the Korean Peninsula and world peace was held. About 210 young Indians participated in this competition. showed keen interest, and after strict screening, 1 grand prize, 2 grand prizes, 3 excellence awards, 5 encouragement awards, etc. A total of 11 winners were selected.
At the award ceremony, Chennai Branch president Park Seung-so and Deputy Consul General Lee Jae-hyung of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai attended as guests of honour and presented the awards. The local youth had a meaningful experience that broadened their understanding of Korean culture through Hangul and enabled them to directly express the message of peace.
In the second session that followed, MCC Professor Advisor Lee Do-hyung gave a special lecture on the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. In the special lecture, the historical background of the division of the Korean Peninsula and the need for peaceful reunification were explained. There was time to watch the main scenes of the movie Gukje Market, which depicts tragedy and family reunion, together.

Many young Indians who watched the screening expressed deep sympathy and even wiped away tears. This special lecture aims to enhance understanding of Korea’s modern and contemporary history and to justify peaceful reunification. It was an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on local university students.
In Session 3, the world’s first ‘global Youth Honorary PUAC Commissioner’ received a lot of attention. Honour was bestowed on four Indian youths who were appointed as committee members. They said, “The democratic and peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula is a universal value of mankind, and we become a messenger of peace that promotes global consensus to support it.”
This is significant because it has expanded the local youth generation into a support base for peaceful reunification. In terms of not only participating in the event, but also entrusting young people as subjects to form an international consensus, public diplomacy, it is said that it presented a new model.
Park Seung-so, president of the Chennai branch, said, “The young people of MCC, who will lead the future of India, will learn about Korea through Hangul and further learn about the Korean Peninsula. I was very moved by the fact that he gave his heart to peace.” We will continue to expand public diplomacy activities with local people.”
