VKA hostel students visit Millennium City Gurugram, win hearts of people here

Gurugram: Students of North-Eastern states and Nepal origin visiting Haryana state during their stay in Gurugram enjoyed a taste of Haryanvi, Punjabi and other types of delicious dishes as well as the glare of this Millennium City. But in return, on Monday evening, these girls enchanted the people of Gurugram with their captivating Northeast cultural programs.

These 23 girls living in a hostel run by Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Agra are on a cultural exchange tour of Haryana from 31 August to 6 September and reached Gurugram from Faridabad on Monday. After that, they left for Rohtak on Tuesday.

In addition to Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, Assam, Shillong, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, students of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and neighboring Nepal, this hostel has also been provided with free education up to college standard here.

Rini Chakma (13), a student of the hostel at Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, a native of Mizoram, a northeastern state, said that living with a family in Gurugram enjoyed North Indian dishes like royal cheese, lentils, raita, parantha, roti etc

Ranjana Tazpuria, the BA Final year student of Nepal origin said that despite being very busy people of Gurugram, they do not lag behind in sharing hospitality and love and gave them a lot of love as part of a family. Before going to various families, these girls went to Sheetla Mata Mandir where they were blessed with a scarf and they also did darshans of Sheetla Mata.

After spending time with various families throughout the day, these students on Monday gave a colorful program of folk dance and song music in cultural program organized by Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in the packed auditorium of Amity International School, sector 46 like Shiva Tandava-Ardhanreshwar Krodh, Kabirdas Bhajans Dance, folk dance of Chota Nagpur (Jharkhand) tribe, Bamboo (bamboo) dance of North Eastern states

Vashistha guests present on the occasion included Dr. Rambir Goswami, chief doctor of Sanjeevani Hospital, social activists  Bodhraj Sikri and advocate Pramod Saluja, Jai Bhagwan, Haryana Prant Sangathan Mantri of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Haryana Prant Sangh Chalak Pawan Jindal, Kripa Prasad Singh, Vice President, All India Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram were present on the occasion. The stage was managed by Anil Kashyap.

All India Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is an organization engaged in the work for the all-round development of 11 crore scheduled tribes and dwellers, commonly called Vanvasis who live in the forests of India, and this includes education, healthy, village and economic development. The ashram runs various programs for the development of forest dwellers for the social and economic development of remote tribal villages. Its branches are spread all over India and have so far benefitted 2 crore Vanvasis.

It is known that the Haryana unit of the ashram has adopted forest dwellers of the state of Odisha, where an amount of 70 – 80 lakh rupees are sent every year, and blankets, clothes and other items are also sent.

On this occasion, Haryana Prant Sangh Chalak Pawan Jindal called upon the people of Gurugram to contribute to the all-round development of 1000 students of hostels run by the ashram this year. For this, each person has to deposit an amount of Rs 15,000 per year.

It is worth mentioning that Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is also operating two hostels in Bhiwani and Faridabad in Haryana. Keeping in mind the goal of maintaining harmony throughout India, Vanvasis living in Northeast India are being provided free lodging and boarding facilities here. Also, free education is also arranged here. Children of 8 to 18 years are studying in both hostels. Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is operating 244 hostels in the country, in which around 9000 students are benefiting.
