1st Korean Cultural Centre Director’s Cup Taekwondo Championship Opened at Indira Gandhi stadium

‘1st Korean Cultural Centre Director’s Cup Taekwondo Championship’ Opened with the participation of around 600 players from pan India at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi on Jan 31.

The competition will run till 2nd February and finale ceremony will take place at 5:00 – 06:00 pm at IG stadium.

It’s an initiative by Korean Cultural Centre India, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Indo Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.

Kim Kum-pyoung, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India, Chung Byungkee, Vice-chair of Education Department, World Taekwondo / Professor of Dept. of Taekwondo, Keimyung University, Korea and Ms. Kim Seon-jung, Dean of International office, Keimyung University, Jimmy R. Jaktainy – president TFI and Ashish Pandey CEO Auric Solutions Pvt. Ltd attended the opening event.

This championship aims at boosting the popularity of Taekwondo in India and encourage Indian athletes to get international level achievements in upcoming events including 2020 Olympic Games. Both men and women Taekwondo players participated in Kyorugi (sparring) tournament under the categories of Cadet, Junior and Senior. The gold and silver medalists of the competition will get a chance to participate in a training camp in Ranchi and South Korea, and further to participate in the 2nd All India Inter SAI-Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship 2019.

Kim Kum-pyoung, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India, quoted Abdul Kalam and said that dream is not what you see while you sleep but is something which doesn’t let you sleep. Set your goal high and pursue your dream with practice. He also added that opponent is not your enemy but your companion, without your companion you cannot grow. Practice hard and achieve your goal.

Sanjay Saraswat, Director of SAI said that the association of Sports Authority of India and Korean Cultural Centre India will go a long way for promoting and developing Taekwondo in particular, and many other sports in general.

Lakshmi a national gold medalist player representing Jammu & Kashmir said that this tournament will add experience and a greater exposure. She is looking forward to win.
